Last time we flew out of Launceston Airport we went to use the Qantas Club and were told that it was closed. We arrived at the check in at about 5 pm and our flight was 1.5 hours later. Is this something that happens in most regional airports in Australia?

Where you flying out on a QF or JQ flight? The QP is only kept open for QF flights, if there are no more QF flights scheduled that day (or at least within the next few hours) then they close the lounge.

I don't know how it is in Launceston, but the Qantas Club on the Gold Coast closes at about 1.30pm, only re-opening for 2 hours prior to the last Qantas flight to Sydney. Rather annoying if you're flying on Jetstar outside these times, but at least it is open for the Qantas departures.

Ok thanks, we're booked to go on Jetstar again next week and it looks like no Qantas flights after we depart this time as well.

I guess that's another one of the VA plusses. They seem to keep their lounges open all day. Mind you, they have considerably less of them to keep open though!

10 VA lounges AUSTRALIA WIDE... gee that is a plus :lol: (QF 24 domestic lounges)...and VA have NO lounge in Launceston..so your 'statistics' don't apply to Launceston.

Pardon? The only statistic (if it could even be called that) that I came even remotely close to writing was that VA have less lounges than QF to keep open. That's not wrong, in fact you agree with me. As to applying to Launceston, may I suggest you read the OP. In particular this bit "Is this something that happens in most regional airports in Australia?" The OP noticed this QF anomaly in the Launceston QP, but the actual question asked (in the Open Discussion thread) related to far more than just Launceston.....in fact it related to more than just QF! Read that question again.

You also misquoted me. I did not suggest VA's quantity of lounges is a plus for them. I stated (again quite correctly I believe.....yet to be corrected, but happy to be if I'm not right) that in my observations, VA tend to keep their lounges open all day. That IS a plus IMHO.

Qantas Club only open for QF operated flights including Qantas Link. Tough luck if you booked Jetstar deliberately or accidentally via the Qantas website and have QF something or other on your boarding pass. I regularly fly to Hobart to work for the day and the last QF flight is about 4pm. So Jetstar it is (to keep Gold status).
