Qantas in the news, has a new vehicle insurance way of earning QF points, no QF SC though.
As in header, (seen in Adelaide Advertiser), 20000 bonus to join, and 1 point per $1 earnt.
Good earner for car drivers.
Not sure how much premiums are though, ...

20k bonus only for premiums over $2k

tested my car, premium about $200 more p.a than current and a 6k point bonus (premium just under $1k)

You'd have to be mad to sign up for most of these Qantas insurances.

Way more expensive than comparable products and the bonus points rarely if ever offset that. Even if the bonus points do offset the cost, I prefer cold hard cash in my hands rather than Qantas points, which can be devalued at will and can be hard to redeem.

I don't drive, those in my family that do, are money tight, so no way would/they would go for this.
But if I had a (day dreaming here, but), driving licence, and a small Barina to zip around with, I would certainly go with this, even if the premium was more by a bit.

Premium needs to be greater than $2k to get the full 20,000 points.
My quote was about $480 more expensive than my current insurer so I’m better off staying with my current mob and spending $480 on wine and getting 15,000 points plus

Yes, thats what I said re the 20k...

Not a very attractive deal after comparing premiums and offsetting the points really.

Yes, disappointing that the bar is set so high to get the 20K bonus points. I won’t be changing from my current provider. Similar story with the bonus points offers for their health and life insurance products.

I will have to investigate this further as from the very first screen I noticed that the insurance is offered by the same insurer as I currently use ie Budget Direct aka Auto & General

My current insurance is $560 and the quote via Qantas is $450. Quote from AAMI is >$800

Better I read the T&Cs to see if I can get the 3,050 Qantas points plus the $110 saving.

I have looked at A&G over a few years and the thing about their quotes that the earlier posters may have triggered are some of A&G requirements. Even if a young driver is in the house they will assume that the younger driver will drive the car. I had this problem with one P platter living at home, had their own car but still pinged on my Budget Direct insurance quote.

The lesson I learned is that if the vehicle, drivers and location falls into the budget direct sweet spot, they are very competitive.

Thanks for the post AustraliaPoochie

What a joke, price for our car insurance with same inclusions and 1st $500 in accident damage was double to current Woolworths Insurance.

$900 with Suncorp. $1500 with Qantas. Brand new Forester. Moving on....

The last time I needed to speak with a Qantas representative about a flight, I had to make do with a 'call back' which came about 4 hours later and too late to be of any use. I am wondering if contacting Qantas about Car Insurance will work in a similar way.

Apologies if this is a bit off topic, but can you offer any advice on best way to earn points from wine spend? I do see lots of offers from QF but not very educated in wine matters. I am not a big wine drinker myself (only the occasional white, normally NZ Sauv Blanc) but like to bring gifts to friends reasonably often.
