emline, great production, I really enjoyed it. The theme music would have better suited you leaving your partner in LA! My next J flight SYD to LAX is in May and whenever I take that trip my wife comes with me so I will show here the video tonight. I make quite a few videos and use Camtasia but no where as good as yours. Well done and hope you make it back soon.

Thanks FF058! I hope I make it back soon too. I miss the place already. Unfortunately me not being able to work in the US makes the relationship very hard! Enjoy your flight in May!

Emeline we have had Social Security cards from 1984 emblazoned with "Not valid for employment".
One of our AFFers has made it thru to get a green card recently. Would you like to send him a PM?

My problem is that my university degree (I'm a registered midwife) does not get me anywhere because they don't have hospital based midwives over there. If I were able to get a green card I would probably end up doing newborn care nannying. I can't get a work visa though, and the only way I can get a green card is if I win the green card lottery (I entered for this year) or get married, which is a lot of pressure and something I'm not quite ready for. I wish there were an easy way, because I would pack up and move today if I could :(

Edit: That being said if anyone has any genius ideas to help me move there I'm more than open to suggestions :)

Medical work seems to be a lockout with the US as they don't accept qualifications. We seem to have a number of AFFers who work in Canada and the U.K. with their medical work but not the US. That is a real roadblock.

Yep indeed. It's really tough - the first time in my life I wish I had trained in something else instead.

Well Emeline Los Angeles can be a really good place for holiday breaks. I work there and the traffic can be tough. Looks like it will be holiday breaks for you in the US then.

A thoroughly enjoyable video. If you cant get a green card with Midwifery, try as a cinematographer!

I've spent about 10 weeks out of the past 12 months in LA - I'm pretty well acquainted with the traffic now, but it doesn't bother me as it's my partner who does all the driving (though we tend to avoid peak hour).

I assume you have, but have you looked at the "thanks for coming to Iraq with us" visa? A number of friends have gone over on E-3 visas, but may be a problem if the potential jobs you would be applying for don't require a degree (e.g. nannying?). Qualifying for the E3 Visa | Canberra, Australia - Embassy of the United States

Thanks, bismarck. I've checked it out and you're correct that I won't qualify for an E-3 because nannying doesn't require a degree. I was trying to see if I could be a nanny for complex babies (those that are premature, need medications, oxygen etc) because that's what I spend most of my time doing but no luck :(
