Has anyone had any experience with getting seat allocation with a qantas code share with BA to singapore?

The travel agent (I travel for a US based professional associations and have to use a US based agent ) booked me on qf319 which is a BA flight.

One the things I want when travelling is an isle seat (as I get older I have to get up a little more often) and have tried to request one. QANTAS say they can't record a request because it is a BA flight and BA don't do that. BA say they can't do it on a code shared flight. I even tried to pay for a exit row today through BA and got the same answer. I have to ask seek it at teh airport or a day before when I can get on-line check in.

I am a lifetime qantas club and qantas silver (and UAL Premier)

It seems to me that this is totally unsatisfactory and I would avoid such code shares in the future. i would be interested in views.

regards

So this is BA on QF metal?
If so:
If your QF number is in the flight booking you can log into the QF site and you should see QF legs in "your Bookings" (I know I could when I was on AA flight number on QF metal)

you should then be able to go into the booking and select your seat...

If it is a QF booking on BA metal It would depend on BA's policies... but a call to BA can not hurt being a OW Ruby FF

No it is a qf booking on ba plane (ba metal I assume ). I looked at qantas site and website and could not do anthing. i rang qantas.

I then looked at ba site and could bring up booking but could not nominte seat preferences. I then rang BA.

In future I will avoid these code sahred types of bookings.

FWIW, as a Qantas WP, I have been able to do seat selection on BA codeshares on QF metal using BA'.com MYB.

However, unless you have at least SG status this will not be available.

As you have posted, you may be able to OLCI either with BA.com or Qantas.com.

Worst case scenario is you get to the airport as early as possible.

Note that BA seating policy works in your favour here if you can OLCI as relatively few WHY seats tend to be pre-selected > 24 hours before each flight - this give a far better chance at your aisle seat.

A little off topic (but I found it interesting). I had booked a BA flight through QF (however with a BA flight number) for travel from SYD-BKK when I was just a QP PS (ie: can't preselect seats on BA). When logging onto my booking on BA it just told me to use OLCI to select my seats.

Then, when I ticked over to SG, the BA system recognised this and I was able to allocate seats for myself and the other person in my booking (with no status). I was quite impressed that the system did this automatically.

On the off topic, anyone know if QF does the same for OW Sapphire?
eg traveling on an AA tix on QF metal with AA Plat can you enter the booking number over at QF and select seats?

And would it make any difference if I did it as a AA Plat or if my wife did it as a QF SG for seat availability..

I regularly travel on QF351/352 (on PX metal) and have never had any trouble finding my booking, choosing and changing seats online on the QF website.

However today I tried changing seats CNS-POM (QF381, again on PX) which the website had arbitrarily decided I fancied, and I was faced with this error message

Your flight is not eligible for seat selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference.

Yeh, right, except I already had seats selected without even asking!! Perhaps this was because I booked a sale fare, perhaps vagaries of the website.

Cheers skip

Just wondered if anyone had any more thoughts or updated information on this topic (which was last active a couple of years ago)
Reason for asking is that I am flying to the UK to cycle the length Britain in July and want to ensure that at the very least I get at an aisle seat to stretch my weary legs.
Here are details
SYD-LHR (BA10) in J using QFF points - so have no real issues for this flight
LHR-SYD on QF302 on BA metal (BA9) in economy
J over there because want to ensure am as fresh as possible for bike ride
Have chosen codeshare/economy coming back because
· high taxes & fees departing LHR if using points didn't stack up - decided to preserve points & pay for flight
· BA9 - as I can purchase additional 23kg bag (i.e. bike) for only £32 via OLCI
· Qantas charge $35 per kg for additional baggage (bike in is approx 18kg)
· Maximise QFF point earn as QF flight # even on BA metal
However, my issue now is that both Qantas & BA indicate that I will have to wait for OLCI to select my seat.
Despite the fact I can see my booking on BA's site and its says "Seat selection will be available on this flight when your e-ticket is issued" (which it has been by Qantas) Both BA & Qantas have said they cannot do this now as it is a codeshare flight. I got two booking ref #s when I booked (one BA one Qantas)
I've managed to have BA put a note against my booking but am not expecting that will be read.
Does anyone have any thoughts about if there is a way to select a seat before OLCI, or if I have to wait, will I get stuck between two people,
Thanks in advance

Does anyone have any thoughts about if there is a way to select a seat before OLCI, or if I have to wait, will I get stuck between two people
for BA operated flights, only people who meet certain specific criteria can pre-allocate seats:

Those paying the full-fare for each cabin (i.e. F, J, W or Y fare classes). Discount fare classes do not qualify
OneWorld Emerald or Sapphire status FF members
Those with special needs such as traveling with an infant

Otherwise you have to wait for on-line check-in. If this is your situation, then plan to be on the internet at the time OLCI opens for the flight.

I have a similar, albeit minor, issue with the BA/QF code share setup. It is the reverse for me, in that, I am on QF metal with a BA flight number.

I have tried both QF and BA and neither can allocate a seat. The best that can be done is to not my travel preferences. :-|

It is a minor issue because it is on a SYD-MEL flight.

BA have no equivalent Elite Tier to OW Ruby. As a result there are a number of "perks" which do not apply to partner Ruby elites. Advance seating selection is one. Status bonus mileage for (AA) Ruby is another.

Happy wandering

Fred

Thanks NM for clarifying the pecking order. As I have booked discount economy, I now know my place.:(
At this stage BA are indicating that the flight is not at all full so fingers crossed.
