Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Yes - part of the conditions. Book seperate and then have the PNRs linked through a call to QF, so you are seen as TCP (Total Complete Party) by the system and check in agents. Depending on status, you might find it hard to find two seats together as well, but being QLink it mightn’t matter anyway (select seats at T-24?)

Cheers,
Matt.
Thanks for the info Matt! Very helpful

I think the lesson here is 'always look a gift horse in the Ts & Cs' 😆
Very true - and speaking of the Ts & Cs - this was what was in the e-mail. It does stipulate an adult passenger only, as I had recalled, but I expect that is due to the single passenger condition. Qantas charges an adult fare when the child is >=12 years old, so it should work, I think... Let us know how you go.

The Qantas flight discount is for the value of A$50 and will be provided as a promo code to eligible members who reside in Australia. The promo code will be valid for bookings made via qantas.com until 30 November 2022, for travel by 30 June 2023. The flight promo code can be applied on new Qantas operated, return Australian domestic or international bookings and are limited to one per adult. Flight promo codes are valid for single adult passenger itinerary bookings only. The A$50 discount will be deducted from the base fare, excluding taxes. The flight promo code cannot be used on existing bookings, bookings made via indirect channels (travel agents, etc), in conjunction with Qantas Flight Credit, Classic Flight Reward fares, Points Plus Pay fares, and cannot be added/ applied after the ticket has been purchased. This offer cannot be used for optional extras such as hotels or car hire. The promo code is non-transferable. Qantas has the right to extend or limit offer periods without notice. Fare Rules and Conditions of Carriage apply.

Cheers,
Matt.

Has anyone tried to book on behalf of their children yet?
Both my kids have the promo email....

My 15 y.o and I booked this afternoon. You need to use the app to apply the codes, I don't think it works on the website?

Following @dairyfloss's advice, he sat with me and booked his ticket first, then I did the same. Codes were accepted on both. I'll call tomorrow and get the flights all linked up. The discount was showing as $55 for each for some reason.

and I've just called the call centre, about 10 minutes on hold, and then the flights were linked up in about 2 minutes by a very competent sounding representative (offshore - I'm guessing Manila). Thanks again for the tips @dairyfloss :)

Good to hear! Glad someone’s getting use out of the vouchers 🤓

Cheers,

In my case as they are <12yo I was tried to book a single child ticket but the code was not valid for this fare. I have called QF and they said it had to be reissued with a new code. In typical QF fashion they have to contact another team "on live chat"? and get this processed, timeframe unknown of course..... Update you all in due course.

I can use my child's code if I book as an adult, not sure implications for doing that - given it is domestic travel you think it wouldn't make a difference..

I HUCA'ed today and they initially queried how come my kids email is the same as mine - well I'm not sure how a 2yo can open an email acct but I digress...
She didn't want to help and simply said if the T and Cs said it's for an adult ticket then your children aren't eligible then...
Suggested I raise a case with customer care.....
Sigh...

Painful... but the T&Cs do say it is only for an adult... which, per the above situation with @The Flying Schwartz is not really an adult in the legal sense, but a booking for an adult fare (12+). I believe this age is also where the ability to travel alone kicks in, and so you wouldn't be able to book someone under the age of 12 on a stand-alone booking, even if the intent was later to link them.

p.s. I do think you'd be fine to use your child's promo code to book a fare for yourself... unlikely they are tracking at that level. Worst case - you "mixed them up as you manage their account!". Interesting though that they issued it in the first place. My boy is 6, and has flown a few times in the period, but didn't get any promotional voucher.

Cheers,
Matt.

Good to see correct rollover landed today despite bugs in the Qantas system meaning I never got an email saying I would get a rollover, and also me getting the wrong gift when they announced it.

How did you get a 650 rollover, they only let me rollover 500 of them!

Also I've just come here to say that I'm an idiot and booked 4 QF domestic flights in December + January (and not cheap despite being "red e-deals") and I forgot to use the $50 voucher on any of them. I wish they'd sent a reminder or had a popup when you login or just added it as credit to my account somehow instead.

Welcome! I don’t have the conditions handy, but I think it might have been restricted to adult fares as well… Maybe start with your son’s booking first to be sure.

Cheers,
Matt
Well, realistically all fares are adults fares. There might be a cut off at like 12 years for child fares. But I can't say I recall any real difference when booking on line.
I could be wrong and will try a child booking in a second.

Pretty simple. You can book either an Adult, or a Child fare, which is (sometimes/often? - may depend on DOM v INT) at a discounted base cost already. There's also an Infant 'fare', but that's more like ticketed human carry-on :)

The conditions of the promo limit to one Adult, and I suspect it is based on the unaccompanied minor rule (children under 12 can't travel alone without certain arrangements being made).

Matt.

Is the 30K points supposed to count towards Points Club?

It appears to have done so for me. I didn't expect this (quite nice as I was going to come up a little short next year).
