Qantas announces greater access to China

Tough call, after all there was this:

China Eastern Airlines to improve pilots’ English | AeroATCBlog

Which does not seem to have helped with this:

China Eastern Airlines Jet Involved in 'Major Incident' on Runway

Same thing affects most chinese carriers because unlike the rest of the world, English is not the designated language for ATC in their country. 6 years ago there were 8000 chinese pilots, of which only 600 have proven English comprehension.

a big proportion of those pilots used to be ex-military background. once they retired from the airforce, Chinese government let them fly commercial airlines with minimum passenger jet training.

it is a big problem in china apparently.

back on topic, china eastern is okay, like other chinese airlines i would avoid them if i can.

If QF was creating greater access to China, they would be increasing services to HKG and serving PEK for a start.

Thanks for posting that! Interesting to see the sequence of fire trucks arriving front and right, the slides deploying .... and then the pax evacuating down the slides getting splooged with jets of foam from the right (about 2:20 and 2:30 especially). I guess that would have stopped them burning if there was a fire about, but I wonder if any got knocked off the (now) slippery slides onto the tarmac towards where any fire would have been?
