If you want to maximise your Qantas Points, the Qantas American Express (Amex) Ultimate credit card is one of the highest-earning options in Australia! You’ll earn 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent (excluding government payments), up to 100,000 points per year. After that, earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 on remaining eligible spend. Plus, earn up to 2.25 Qantas Points per dollar spent on eligible Qantas products and services.

The $450 annual fee is fully offset with an annual $450 Qantas travel credit that you can use towards Qantas domestic or international flights. You’ll also receive two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations and two visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne every year. To top it off, Qantas Amex Ultimate cardholders receive complimentary Qantas Wine Premium membership.

If you apply by 13 January 2026, you can also earn 70,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend at least $3,000 on the card within the first 3 months. Renew the card for a second year and spend at least $1 on it after renewing to get another 20,000 Qantas Points. See our card guide for the full details:

Couple of days ago, booking for the QF DSC promo, I compared Amex Travel (left) with QF (right) and was pleasantly surprised!

With the $450 off, booking Economy Saver, I'm pretty happy with this little earner! Let's hope my upgrade comes through.
The one on the right is in NZD, so amex travel is still a few dollars more than booking directly.

G'day folks - question on applying via a referral from a mate that has the QF AmEx Ultimate card. Does the new member (let's assume that's me, or the missus) also get something extra in addition to the best of the public offer at that time, or is it just something for the referrer? Happy to earn him the bonus points if we go ahead... I just can't figure out if we should be waiting out for something better than a public level offer in the process

Cheers,
Matt.
Just getting to the point of doing this now, and my mate's account has kicked out the below error when he tries to generate a referral. Is this the end of the line for him, or is it a known and resolvable concern? He's only got the one account and the subject QF AmEx Ultimate card on it.

And don't worry - if he can't fix it, I'll of course look to one of the referees on here in place!
