Qantas Boeing 787-9 VH-ZNC is currently en-route from PER to LAX non-stop! Left around 2am this morning, Perth time, and will arrive in LAX around 4am local time (same day).

I assume it's a charter or positioning flight.

Even in J (in fact even if there was F and I was the only one in it), both departure and arrival times are most unappealing.

Possibly flying those wrestling "superstars" back to the US after the event last weekend?
What gets me about these WWE characters is that there are dozens of organisations around our country trying to overcome all forms of violence in our society, and we import these clowns on vast money to beat the cough out of each other. And thousands go and watch it live.? And it is supported by our Premier???

Interesting that this flight has an ETA of 04:14am at LAX. Any Commercial flight arriving before 06:00 at LAX are normally held at the gate because LAX immigration is not available until 6am. I wonder if WWE has enough influence in the USA/LAX to have inbound immigration processing available at 4:15am at LAX? or have they somehow managed to arrange for special consideration due to all passengers being US citizens and/or pre-clearence for the passengers when departing Perth (unlikely)?

Perhaps special handing has been arranged so the passengers don't need to queue with the rest of the regular early morning arrivals at TBI or T4 arrivals and can be processed in isolation of the normal morning arrival crowds.

Putting aside the mad flight timings, does anyone even think this would be a good idea, i.e. to introduce into mainstream business?

Only if you think someone can make commercial sense of a flight with 52 passengers (in Business and Premium Economy seating) in anything other than a charter flight operation. The low passenger count allowed for higher fuel loading to enable the flight to complete the operational requirement. A regular commercial operation loading (passengers paying commercial fares) would not be viable.

Suspect it can't be run with a full load..
With the Sunrise 35K or later standard 35Ks it's probably an option.

I suspect they are using a service like this.

That would be the WWE promoters and associated businesses.
would it? or would the WA government be stumping up these cost. kind of irrelevent to the flight.

It'd be good if that service was in place, having to pass through customs on the east coast is hard especially after redeye.. When given a choice I fly west or north

Either give you a good choice of connections, as does flying via the east coast, though as you say 6am customs and the inter terminal bus is brutal after 14-16 hours in Y

In any case Qantas would certainly have the numbers on thru traffic and be able to estimate how much it could return. I reckon they have a pretty captive audience of roo-aligned west Aussies going via Syd, Mel and Bne, and there might not be too much more to gain through a direct. Not sure there's substantial VFR to keep it afloat outside of holiday seasons, like per/LHR has.

yep sadly there arent the numbers, but its a chicken/egg thing. I do know it'd help make my case for Perth hosting a Global conference a lot easier
