Qantas 747 - Upstairs or Downstairs?

here's the view from the top level (with some neck stretching). I was sitting in the second row (13K).

13 would be the third row. Upstairs bulkhead is row 11.

My next 747 flight I have been assigned seats in row 52. I would much rather be upstairs for that flight

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but would appreciate some seating advice. I'm in J on a 744 (thanks to an upgrade clearing) and the following seats are available to me. What would be the best options:

1. No seats available in front nose section
2. Main J cabin - 5DEF and 7DEF and 8JK (there are other aisle seats free but EF shows the A/K seats occupied and I don't really want to be stepped over)
3. Upper deck - 15B is only seat free and 15A is taken (so same issue being stepped over)

Is 5DEF a good set of 3? I've currently selected 5F and have a seat alert set for any better seats in UD or nose section in case they open.

Yeah, 5D or 5F in that situation.

My seat alerts would be for 5B, 5J, 3E, 3F, 14A or 14K ... e

On my last flight had allocated 5J and boarded to find someone sitting in my seat. It was the guy from 5F. Could have been an honest mistake.

5F or 5D look to be good alternatives.

I must say I am quite conflicted about this issue.

I usually choose 5B or 5J. But occasionally I have been choosing 14 A or 14K. I get the quick(er) exit thing, but in the result, it's usually a maximum ten minutes longer from upstairs? And as HLO, and an e passport, there is little difference.

Still conflicted. On my next trip, to SFO, I have chosen 5B outbound and 14A inbound.
