Qantas passengers on board a flight that turned back shortly after leaving Singapore have described seeing "tongues of fire" coming from one of the 747 jumbo jet's engines.

Qantas 747 turns back to Singapore after 'flames from engine'

It does seem like they were well prepared at the other end with accommodation for stranded pax, so props to QF for that (no ACA/TT grumblings for now at least. :))

Also, they very quickly distanced it from the industrial dispute - makes sense I guess given the nature of the strike.

Plane full of creative writers I think.

Sounds like a bird got sucked in?

Dont know of too many birds that fly at 20-30000 feet considering that was probably the altitude of the aircraft 20 mins after takeoff.

"On its return to Singapore, Mr Brady said the plane was directed to its own runway "

Bonus - your own runway - very handy for a landing aircraft regardless of what state it is in LOL;)

Also very nice of the pilot to get out of the way of the plane behind that was
then he sort of pulled gently and slowly to the left to get out of the flight path because the plane behind us was only a minute and half behind and still going full speed," he said.
,

The incident is the latest in a long line of incidents to affect the trouble-plagued airline.

What an absolute piece of rubbish writing! sorry but that article reeks of Qantas bashing. It's not the first time an engine has been shut down and it won't be the last either!

Whoever wrote it must be an ex News Ltd journalist.
