I am looking at purchasing a One World Circle Pacific fare out of Hong Kong - as the fares there seem quite low (around A$5000 for under 22000 miles)

So far I have held the flights with the AA office in Hong Kong, but they are saying that I cannot pay for the ticket over the phone - that I need to come into one of their offices in Hong Kong (which won't be possible as I am only connecting thru HKG on the departure day).

In the past I have had no problem booking a AA RTW One world explorer thru the AA US desk, and then paying for it out of the Narita office - they take Australian credit cards over the phone.

Has anybody had any luck doing the same thing thru the HKG AA office? Any other suggestions. I would prefer to purchase out of HKG as the fare is HKD 33740 (about A$4925), compared to A$7600 out of Sydney

The itinerary is a fairly simple HKG-LAX-SYD-HKG

Thanks

Are you sure you would pay the AU price ???

I purchased a circle asia from the AU Qantas phone line and since i was starting in Singapore they were charging the Singapore price.

Yes i know i may have saves a few $$ on fuel fines buyign the same ticket ex Singapore from CX but i wanted it done and was too busy to deal with a non Australian person.

So i would say if you purchase in Sunday you should pay the HKG price anyway....

Yes, i was wondering if I could do that. The fuel fines probably won't be that great, as I think AA charge the same for SYD-LAX anyway.

Shall call up QF and ask them. Thanks

Hmmm. QF just said that they can't do HKG pricing unless I deal with their HKG office.

Thats no good, i guess Hing Kong must still have an office there for ticketing, Singapore no longer does tickets, all calls get routed to AU now.

The front line person just takes your details and get there required person to price the fare. Took a while on hold for then to do it.

I have used QF to ticket BA flights also, but i wanted them to ticket a JAL one next week to KUL and they said no go, but i discovered i could do it on there web page now. (JAL Singapore, not Japan)

Hi Adrian

Have you thought about ticketing in KUL?

I have just arranged for ticketing a DCIR22 for travel KUL-SIN-SYD-SFO-a gap-YVR-HKG-KUL in August '08 for Mrs SFSC and myself through the CX office in Kuala Lumpur at MYR 14048 each + Taxes and fuel fines of MYR 1652 each. I probably could have got the fuel fines down a bit more by booking through AA and using a KL travel agent but booking through CX worked for me. I have found the CX staff very helpful both on the phone (60 3 20352777) and through e-mails sent to [email protected] . Their credit card authorisation proceedure may not be as secure as I would prefer but that sort of thing is always a personal decision we'll see how it tutns out.

We'll most probably position to KUL on JQ, probably Star Class. We'll look at options for getting back home next year. Mrs SFSC does not like to do too many flights (this is why we are flying YVR-HKG instead of YVR-NRT-HKG) but I would really like to position back as part of a DONE.

For me, HKG is easier for flight connections. This is one of those trips where I actually want to do as little flying as possible (I am actually going to Mexico City for 3 days of work, and a flight from LAX should be fast and easy). As for getting to HKG, I have the balance of a DONE4 that ends in NRT that I can use to get SYD-HKG without too much pain (shall bank the HKG-NRT for another day)

Howver, you have made me think that it just might be easier ticketing this ticket thru CX out of HKG (provided they take c/c over the phone). Although I do prefer AA when I have the choice (their change fees are usually lower, as well as their fuel fines)

If all else fails, you can still buy at the NRT price if you ticket through NRT ; won't be as cheap as the ex HKG price, but will be cheaper than the ex-AU price

Do you have any open sectors or anything else which could be causing it to be a paper ticket? I know that NRT will happily issue electronic tickets over the phone, but paper ones require the personal visit. Could it be the same in HKG?

Thanks for all the advice.

In the end, HKG AA office said that they would ticket (as a "one-off") via emailing of forms and credit card details etc.

Aust (India) AA office said that they could take credit card payment (though that probably involves forms also)

CX HKG office said there would be no problem in taking c/card payment over phone, which sound like the easiest option

However..... this has all come a bit unstuck as I have just discovered the circle-pacific is basically a 7 day advance purchase - my flights are for next Thursday, however, I don't get an answer from my client until Saturday. I was toying with the idea of paying/ticketing, and then cancelling if need be, but am getting some different answers on a cancellation fee - QF said they charge 20% of fare. AA said it would be 10% (but she didn't sound very confident of that, and she had originally told me it would be $0). Either way, it is a bit high.

FWIW, the HK based fare was really good, at US$4717, including taxes, or around A$5380. Pity, but it looks like my client might be paying a whole lot more than that now...

I presume the 7 day purchase is to stop a few business customers using these tickets ? or maybe its becuase of the mix of airlines but i would have not thought that an issue.

Anyway its a pain and has stopped me using some flights like this before.
