Putting elite status bag tag onto carry on. Yay or Nay?

IMHO yes. It serves no other real purpose!

Slightly unrelated, but I often find it amusing when I see Platinum & Platinum One bag tags in the on carry-on bags in the Qantas Club (at ports like SYD which have a J lounge). The other lounge users who don't know what a black or white Q tag is wouldn't care, and those who do know would think they're either a wanker (for pretending they have a status level they don't have) or too stupid to realise they can go next door into the nicer lounge. ;)😂
I left my plat tag on after I dropped back to gold 😬

I still have the old Platinum, credit-card sized tags on my carry-on as they are a useful form of baggage identification if the bag is misplaced. The new Q-tags are only on my check-in luggage -too big and ugly for carry-on.

Yes because sometimes it does get checked in and I’m too lazy to swap out bag tags and too underprepared to travel with spares! Depends on the trip and sometimes I may have bought more than I should have or infrequently been caught with something sharp I don’t want to give up so I check the carry-on bag through, take the laptop out and use another spare reuseable pouch bag to put the laptop in and anything else I need and check in the carry-on. It’s my back up!!

QF coaster on cabin sized roller bag - yes, I travel with a set of fine-tip screwdrivers for work (the type used to open phones and laptops) and get asked to check them in ~30% of the time (100% at CBR).

Never understood putting a coaster on backpacks, handbags or other items which are obviously never checked in but used it see it all the time. Was once stuck at security behind a woman who had at least 20 Gold & Plat VA tags and old QF membership cards on a ring attached to her handbag strap. We get it, you travel. Congrats.

My boss gave his CL / P1 bag tags to his teenage kids who I’m sure have no idea what they are 😂

Many AFf’ers would salivate to get their hands on them!

EDIT: I could offer them a swapsies if people want to offload some red / bronze tags see what they say!

I do use my Virgin ones on hand luggage. I find them practical, as they have my details already printed on them, so no one has to read my scratchy handwriting. Plus if I lose my bag, especially on another airline, it gives them a second contact point if they can't find me, as they may then try to contact Virgin to reach out to me.

I like the newer more discrete ones too, but I do have some bags lying around with the old silver and gold boomerang Velocity logos, and if I pick up one of those to use, I don't bother changing the tags over to new ones.

I only put the Qantas tags on larger luggage, for the infrequent times when I am checking in a bag at Qantas.

Yes for me.
I’ll usually have a Qantas coaster on my carry on bag for a few reasons.

Similar to Princess Fiona’s comments, it saves having to fumble for my boarding pass or QFF card when joining the line for priority checkin or security lanes.

Being a relatively young FF with status, there have been a few instances now where people (not even staff/crew) would mention that the line I’m waiting in is for priority/status pax; to which I was eligible for either by class of travel, status, or both anyway. The white coaster usually resolves that, although sometimes I do wish I had a red coaster just to be facetious 😄

I thought about using colour appropriate coasters depending on my bags… WP for black backpack (although CL would be so much better!) etc. Abandoned that idea when I purchased a grey/silver duffle. First world problems, I know!

Bonus use… using the QFF coaster as an actual coaster when onboard to stop beverages sliding around on the tray table!

I wouldn't be so sure MissM is a young teenager and fully understands the difference in colour. On her first visit to a CL lounge (guest) she started asking why haven't we been using this before. Years ago I was advised I would be creating a monster and I have :p

In North America, much more common, because they're just the credit card size (or smaller in UA and AA's case).

The QF tag is just a bit too big and wanky.

I don't personally, but I have always interpreted it as "yes, I know which line I am in, and yes I do belong here". From the posts above it does seem effective.

Those who are against putting the elite bag tags on your carry on. Do you have some other form of tag with your details on or you just don't bother with a tag at all?

Elite tags: Drinks coasters, earrings. They have other uses.

I wouldn't use elite tags on hand luggage unless that was the only thing I had to identify my bag...especially if there's a risk of it being put into checked luggage. If not, then it's a definite no from me. It's so wanky!
