Hi I thought it would be good to write about this experience. I had purchased an upgrade from discount economy for my flight from YPKA to YPPH.

Then spanner in the works===>

Delayed flight. Therefore to make the connecting flight to Melbourne I had been transferred to a 717 ==> all economy to Perth.

Thanks for that.

It all went on a so called "thru fare" thanks convenient for Qantas.

Real bummer for me.

No money back, no offer of upgrade next time for free.

If they were points upgrade they would have been refunded.

When you say "Purchased" do you mean that you had paid the change fee and difference in fare and had it reticketed in Business? If so, you should definitely be complaining for your involuntary downgrade.

I would agree with bugayev on this one.

My parnter and I were speaking to a lady on a flight not too long ago who had been delayed due to a 380 going tech. To keep her in J, QF offered for her to go LHR-SYD-PER, however she accepted LHR-HKG in J and HKG-PER in Y to get home. She was definately was compensated for this.

she should be under EU regulations - either for the downgrade - or for the extra travel time to reach her destination (if she had chosen to route via SYD) if the flight got in more than 4 hours or whatever it is.

Hi,

The ticket was a normal company purchased red e deal type. I wanted some tax effective pampering. So purchased the difference and upgraded my rededeal to business.

Unfortunately due to circumstances out of my control I still flew economy.

Qantas should refund. But instead ignored the fact completely.

Qantas may not have offered you a refund at the time of the flight. But if you paid to upgrade and then didn't get what you paid for, you should get in touch with Qantas and ask for a refund of the extra payment.

They may not have offered at the airport but they are obliged to, and in fact will, offer some form of compensation for the downgrade from business to economy.

Send them feedback and even outline your demands in the letter....

Of course you will get a refund. You purchased a J ticket and flew Y because of circumstances beyond your control.

What made you think you wouldn't get a refund??

Did you pay for the upgrade by credit card? If you aren't having any luck getting the refund, threaten to chargeback through your card issuer... it usually wakes them up and expedites a little bit.

Thanks Bunza for the advice, nice suggestion. A letter from QF states (arrived today) ==> "I would like to acknowledged you were downgraded on Qantas flight QF xx_X from xx_X to Perth on date xx_X.
As this was booked as a through fare no refund is due. A through fare means fare prices are calculated and may include some legs/routes for a very small amount. If you were to book this flight separately, it may be considerably more. This is why no refund is due."

It goes on to say that QF very graciously will refund me due to other issues. This is good news. Cheers

this is why we need a tough EU compensation type arrangement. No provisions under that regime for 'through fare' excuses. Of course QF should refund for a downgrade. Period.

I'm really not sure why you're blocking out the flight number and departure airport, especially as you've already mentioned the departure airport. But as best I can work out you flew:

KTA-PER-MEL - booked by the company. You then upgraded, by paying extra cash, KTA-PER. Is that correct? If you paid to upgrade KTA-PER only, as a separate option. Then I'm not sure how the through fare thing even comes into it.

Or was it KTA-xPER-MEL that you upgraded? If that was the case did you get a J seat on PER-MEL?

If you only paid to upgrade KTA-PER as a separate charge then chargeback would be my next step. But if you paid to upgrade KTA-MEL then I can understand why Qantas are taking their position.

Not sure how to link using iPhone AFF Application :(

Open in Safari option. Copy the address, then post back in the application. Long and complex.

Why are we resurrecting a 4 year old thread?

MUST CHECK DATES!

PF had issues with the linking bit to an old thread but still relevant as it's still happening!

Old thread yes, but still relevant yes, you are correct that it was KTA PER MEL. Purchased the difference from discount economy to J using Amex CC. Suppose to fly J all the way. But instead downgraded to Y KTA PER leg.

Some compensation came back 200 AUD hardly enough for that sector and continued flying but in J from PER to MEL.

Thanks straitman... I thought maybe marki had a new thread?

MELtraveller yep it was new thread 4 years ago.

My first multi quote on the APP !!!!!
