Property: Pullman Sydney Airport
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Superior King
Room upgraded/type: Yes - high executive floor
Rate: flexible $269
Free internet: Yes abt 4 Mbps (5G mobile was 150Mbps)
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: Checked in early
Welcome drink: Yes, with canapes in restaurant bar
Welcome gift: Box of 4 choccies (and water, I guess)
Recommended? Not really if you are after Pullman quality. But for the price it was OK.

Arriving, I caught the train to Mascot and then walked 500m and departing the 'Super Shuttle' for $12.

Annoyingly, at check-in when I checked that the room was quiet, as requested, they said its away from the lifts. "Facing the road or other side?' I asked. Facing road. I asked if I could be moved to the other side. "We are fully booked". I didn't reply: "Yes, I booked months ago, with my request and I'm plat, and I'm checking in early but don't need the room". Duty manager called. Was basically "we have upgraded you, should be happy; and the room is quiet." Room on 11th floor - could easily hear the trucks and motorcycles down below.

Like, Brisbane, the Exec Lounge is small and hardly used - coffee, soft drinks and small snacks.

Definitely a step down from the Brisbane Airport Pullman I stayed at the prior night.

EDIT: I just recalled: Wasn't this the place that opened a few years ago and got absolutely panned? If so, I can see why.

The aircon worked well - silent and blew cool air not over you when lying down.

I looked and looked and looked and couldn't find the switch for the lights in the bathroom.

IMG_1958.jpegPoor attempt at a green arrow but there are 2 switches on the wall😉

You mean as you walk through the door, where the room light switches are (certainly not on the LH, bathroom side of that black panel)? A dumb place for a bathroom light. In or on bed, you have to walk past the bathroom to turn its light on. Finished? Walk out of the bathroom, round the corner, turn off the lights, walk past the bathroom ... you get the idea.

Putting the switches inside the bathroom, or by the bed would have killed them?

@RooFlyer , I have fat fingers🫵
That arrow points to the edge of the black wall on the side where you walk in, a coupla feet from room lights.
I stay there every time I’m in SYD and have worked out many of the dumb things that most hotels have.

Property: Pullman SYD Airport
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Deluxe Room x1, Deluxe Executive x2
Room upgraded/type: No. one room downgraded, see below
Rate: RHR
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: No required and not offered
Welcome drink: Yes, x2 in app
Welcome gift: Little box of four truffle chocolates which were delicious. Provided in all three rooms

Needed a place to rest the head for the night flying in from PER before leaving on the Indian Pacific from Central Station. Needed a connecting room for my dad and brother and advised the deluxe executive rooms provide that. Just needed to note in the booking. I went for a deluxe room as being platinum I'd get breakfast anyway. Booking request also had an option to tick for all rooms on the same floor.

A few days prior I also emailed requesting that one of the connecting rooms be made feather free, which they acknowledged.

On check-in the didnt have the connecting rooms or the feather free room ready. They said if I want connecting one of the rooms would be an accessible room (which IMHO a downgrade. The only other option would be for me to be on a different floor which would have been problematic, so I had to accept the accessible room.

We ate at the restaurant. Went down at 8:30pm without a booking. There were a bunch of free tables but told we would need to wait about 15 minutes while they cleared them. Took them 20 minutes to get us a table. Again, pretty poor.

On checkout they asked about the stay and I told them I was annoyed. It's not like they didnt have over a month of lead time to know what I had booked.

Filled in the post survey stay noting my concerns and just got a generic "we appreciate your feedback" response.

I've got another RHR booking there for next week. Would have considered cancelling if it were not pre-paid. Hopefully they can get things right this time around.

Edit: Also receive points for all three rooms, which I guess is to be expected?

According to ALL it should only be for 2 rooms, but maybe it was a secret apology?

re Lounges: (This seems reasonably up to date):

However I stayed last week at SYD Airport Pullman - they no longer operate a lounge but do provide complimentary 'select' drinks and canapes to Platinum/Diamond in their bar 5pm to 6:30pm.

There is a exec lounge on the 1st floor @serfty . It's tucked in the back rh corner passed the lifts.
Nothing fancy, coffee machine, cold soft drink cans, bikkies & nuts. Sometimes is used for biz meetings.

Yep, I often go up there and grab a few soft drinks for our room. It also is always pretty much empty so a nice play to relax

Not mentioned in the letter I was given...
It as once the main lounge but since they moved to the snacks/drinks in the restaurant area it’s pretty much a useless area that sometimes holds meetings. I just go in there and help myself to soft drink and water and will go in there and read the paper or do some work on my laptop. Have hardly ever seen anyone else in there and they don’t advertise it

True, but it's there for exec. guests to use.
When is being used for meetings, I've been told to get a soft drink from the bar.
Except they fail to mention it's existence. I was there twice in Jan and had no idea.

Just looking at some SYD airport options. Is the Mantra as aged as the images it uses on the ALL app?View attachment 433810
I stayed there for work a while back and it was ok and yes it is fairly modern and for memory it’s under 10 years old. I personally prefer the Pullman and often when I’ve booked you can get the Pullman RHR rate for only a few bucks more than the Mantra

Really impressed with this place. Clean, modern and the corner room i received on the 11th floor would satisfy the most avid of planespotters. Really loved how they made the corridors look like runways.. really cool.

Average stay at Pullman Mascot/Sydney Airport yesterday. Accor plus platinum, no upgrade. Welcome gift was one bottle of water and an apple, pear and a Mandarin on a plate. The welcome drink if you want wine is the hideous legacy stuff. Evening canapes still downstairs in the restaurant, very poor quality in my opinion and wine was awful. Breakfast buffet is pretty ordinary too. I don't mind the rooms but this place could be so much better.

Property: Pullman Sydney Airport
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Superior Room
Rate: $250 per night member rate, I think there was rugby on, was busy
Room upgrade: No, but given higher floor
Free internet: Yes
Free breakfast: yes (Platinum benefit)
Early check in / late out: not required, arrived in the evening left by 7am
Welcome drink: 2 vouchers in app, redeemed for beers at the bar.
Welcome gift: Yes, couple apples and a pear, mineral water and generic welcome card.
Recommend: Yes if it suits.

Now I should have booked the suite when I saw it for $260 a few days before but my plans were not firm, looked like a price error which was fixed later 😀

There was rugby on the Saturday I needed to stay so price was a bit higher than usual, overall stay was fine, stormy in Sydney so uber wait was huge, clever me decided to catch the bus because the rain had stopped of course it bucketed down when I’m 100 meters from the entrance, so I was a bit of a drowned rat walking in.

Hotel was packed and I was checking in later so no upgrade, but a higher floor, status recognition an after thought otherwise pleasant enough, girl at the bar gave me free drinks without checking my vouchers, I just mentioned I had them, I didn’t want to get her in trouble so I did ask after the 2nd drink if she needed to check off the vouchers and then she did 🤷‍♂️

Room was nice and quiet, got a good sleep before an early rise.

Breakfast in the restaurant downstairs pretty standard and quiet at just after 6am.

I’m not sure how the Novotel compares but was about $350 for the same night.

Mmm, 3 apples. Glorious gift and creative fruit plate... Not. Again this hotel disappoints

I stayed there a couple of weeks ago - that gift is better than the zip, zilch, nada that I got as a Platinum, until I brought it up on the last night. At that point they brought us up the ol' De Bortoli Legacy and a cheese platter that seemed to be the same as what was on offer at the Exec Lounge bench - also a new experience since staying there roughly the same time last year. A bit awkward but the food was not awful and the drinks were flowing freely.

This was after having to battle them for being able to book a rate on the ALL website and having the staff 'deconstruct' the Executive Lounge while I was in there (the one that is a meeting room on Level 1 - not the bench). Interestingly, they were not advertising the Level 1 lounge in the letter given to me at checkin, but I was not the only one in there at times using it as an Exec Lounge.

Sounds like trying the railway Mercure might be back on the menu. Although next stay in Sydney is at a non Accor hotel that gladly gave a better rate than their website just by emailing them to ask, rather than telling me on the phone that the rate on the website shouldn't be there and hence I can't book it.
