You can top up using the myki app. It uses the NFC in your phone to write the money into your myki card.

Or, you can just use the myki card generated by Google Wallet.

Unfortunately useless for all the Apple people - not an option. It is truly stupid that PTV doesn't install (or is perhaps blocked from installing?) installing a machine in a useful location at the airport.

Agreed it would make sense to have one in the bus stop area. Although If you’re coming from any of the terminals, stopping by at the machine in T4 is not really a detour at all.

It's not a great detour, but it is almost invisible to most passengers (and unknown), and a completely illogical location.

Aaah the airport wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity for a bit of grift here and there. The collect fees from Skybus and of course taxis/uber etc. But I assume not from PTV.

Agoda is actually the second most expensive at the moment.

Skybus is doing $19.9 one way or $35 return

Agoda is doing $22.12 one way or $37.04 return

NRMA is doing $20.91 one way or $35.02 return

RACV is doing $22.14 one way or $37.08 one way

Is this still the case? I know this used to be the case, but they are now saying this is also available for iPhone. (I use Android so I can't test)

I would say, more likely that people were just free loading and not actually buying anything in DFO.

Had to go from airport to south east Melbourne yesterday, and honestly, taking bus 901 to Broadmeadow, then train into city then continue down south only took 0 to 30 minutes longer than taking Skybus Peninsula, as 901 had reasonable frequencies and trains don't get stuck in traffic, while Skybus is only hourly and could have stuck in traffic. If you just miss the hourly Skybus by 10 or 15 mins, you would spend 45 minutes sitting at the airport, may as well jump on the public bus 901.

I agree with you re only 30 minutes longer if timed properly. PTV app is very useful.

Note the Skybus departs does not run 1am to 4am and otherwise is every 10 to 15 minutes.

The lack of Myki support on Apple devices stems from Apple's restrictive NFC and payment system architecture³, regulatory and privacy concerns, and Myki's technical and organizational challenges in adapting their system for iOS. Efforts are ongoing to improve compatibility, but as of now, Myki is not fully functional on iPhones.

³Apple restricts support for Host Card Emulation (HCE), a technology that allows storing card details in the cloud for transit cards like Myki. Instead, Apple Pay uses an embedded Secure Element (eSE) for security, which complicates integrating Myki's system with iPhones

The reason Mobile Myki isn't available on iPhone... yet

Ha! Never used that one, even though Chelsea would be a viable option. The $37.50 seniors can't compete with a $2.75 Myki ...

Oh that's funny. I actually checked before posting and the page I found showed only Google Play, so, par for the course, PTV's documentation is incomplete/inaccurate.

Ah, so there is one at MEL T4.
Took me a while to find the one at MEL T2.
Was told (outside)... so went to uber zone, nak... turns out its outside the loos!

As an Apple user of Myki, I am very happy with autoload. Would recommend it for all supported public transport cards

It manages to work fine for my San Francisco Clipper card which still has a few $USD on it waiting for my next trip

Ah, it’s been on my “To Do” list to check the status of Clipper and iOS. I have a physical card from years ago as a fall back for my next trip.

No drama with the Chicago Ventra card in Apple wallet. Incredible savings if you buy a weekly pass and catching the EL into town and back and staying for a few days.

You can top up a physical myki on iPhone using the NFC in the phone (I do it all the time) - you just can’t have an electronic myki in an iPhone, like you can on an Android phone.

Uber or taxi.
No cheap public buses go near it.
If the Tas Libs win gov, they will try to get Skybus Tas to go from Launceston to airport, according to PulseTasmania.
There was at one time, a pax shuttle bus, not sure if that still runs.

According to this, there is a public buses that goes as far as Breadalbane, but then it veers south, so not to the airport, tho there is a cemented walkway, not sure of the number of the bus tho, and seeing it does not go to the airport, so not really that useful, esp having to walk that far..

Edit: 796 from # 854 to Hobart Rd, from and to city, but its a pain to walk from there to the airport itself, ie, # 854 Hobart Rd.

Going back to the Launceston one, now that is a real take on making money.
If a person has a trolley, or bag that has wheels, it will be hard to get across the busy road, so private transport is a must.
Walking 15/20min, if arriving in the evening, and wanting to walk to the nearest public bus stop, not sure if there is a streetlamp every few hundred m on that road.
At least even BNE, (MEL, SYD, PER, ADL) has a way of getting the long way round to the city, even NTL has, ...
HBA and LST, airport that is, is cunning.
HBA is even worst than LST, the public bus stop is half an hr walk or more from the terminal.
At least HBA has the cemented and lit every few meters walkway from the airport to the Travelodge, but LST has nothing, no hotel near the airport.
No visible bus stop either at 854, C402, Launceston.
