Any updates on how to get around this - website is still saying that you need to front up at office in 2 days. Red Roo - QF is on the nose at the moment, maybe a quick win!!

Will you have the same problem is you book an AA award on QF metal??

there is a separate thread on this - raised well over 12 months ago.

unfortunately qantas refuses to provide an update or any solutions to this issue.

you can call the QF call centre and they will slug you Aussie $ and a call centre handling fee and process this as a booking 'made in Australia'.

There seems to be no will or motivation to change this.

It is a shame that Qantas is the ONLY airline subject to the regulations requiring you to front up at the bankok office (or so they will have you believe).

No I have booked AA awards BKK-SYD on QF24 without any need to have a CC sighted.

BKK don't need to sight your credit card to issue an ticket or e ticket.. Qantas do it over the phone. I've done it many times. However you get the occasional operator at Qantas who doesn't know their job and will tell you that BKK have to sight the credit card. This is not true. I keep ringing until I get someone that does know what they are doing. You have to have the original card of booking with you when you check in at the airport. If not they will make you buy another ticket and refund the first one. Happened to me once before on a business class ticket, had to fork out for another business class ticket then got refunded the first one.

I am searching for a thread regarding this issue, when trying to book flights back from Ho Ch Minh. (I can't seem to search for things very well). Much cheaper to book one way flights, than a return. For 4 people this sure adds up. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

If you are trying to book on-line exBKK, there is a pop up screen that says you must visit the BKK office before the ticket will be issued.

You have always been able to process the booking through the Australian call centre... they will charge you handsomely for the service and will base it as an Australian booking, not exBKK (it works out slightly more expensive).

As I mentioned, QF admits this situation, and claims they are bound by local regulations, and appear to be the only airline bound by these local regulations.

they have refused all suggested solutions, including a blanket exemption on booking fees and charges if you use the Australian call centre, or even a blanket exemption for frequent flyers holding a QFFF card (ie, no fraud risk).

they have also refused to provide a definitive time line for the end of this expensive process that involves on-line bookings from Thailand, China and a number of other countries.

There is an easy way around this ,,, and a lot of the time it can be cheaper also .

Book it through one of the expedia sites,,, i.e. .sg or .th etc ,,, they have different prices sometimes.. Have a search around and see what prices you can get.

Put your QFF number in while doing the booking and the booking will appear straight away in your Qantas Bookings.

problem is that you can't get award seats through any other means than QF.

And once you call the Aussie centre then there's a $60 agent booking fee, and the fees and charges are slightly higher than processing it as a pure exBKK ticket (because of something they do to make it an 'australian' booking)

That's not quite corrrect, they told me it would be fixed in six months.
Mind you, that was three years ago.

Has anybody tried making the booking and looking to see when they charge the credit card.. And then without fronting up seeing if the booking still exists after a couple of days.

When I used to try and book ex BKK I always gave up when I got to the "you have to front up to the Bangkok office screen"

Maybe it is just a ruse and the booking will go through anyway.. Worth a shot for anybody intending to make a booking

You are not charged until you go to the office. If you book your ticket online and don't front up for payment, no ticket is issued. Pay at the office you get your ticket and can choose your seats. It *is* a right royal PITA - QF don't care. I visit at least 2x year and always being told it's going to be changed; like others have said have been hearing that for well over 3+ years!

Actually, it could be argued, that you are looking for an operator that doesn't know their job, or is willing to bend the rules. The documented procedure, for an Award ticket, originating in Bangkok, is that you have to front up to the office to show the credit card.

I was doing some reach on flights out of BKK on Qantas.com and it seems the message regarding needing to sight the credit card at the QF Bankok office is no longer there. Any know if QF has dropped this requirement now?

I think you may find RedRoo has posted about the dropping of this requirement but you may need to do some digging as it has been a number of months.

Hopefully there are no longer any remaining ports where this is required. And it might be worth it for people in China to start booking QF to Australia now! No wonder the old PEK-SYD and PVG-MEL services failed.
