Problem at SYD? [UA flight blows two tyres on takeoff]

If the problem was only tyres, why didn't it continue to its destination? Presumably the emergency services at LAX are up to par?

Imagine finding out that there was damage somewhere over the pacific ocean and then having to try and make land at a small airport.

Flightradar now showing aircraft using 34L so hopefully some delays can be cleared. My sister stuck in OOL tonight and VA could only re-book her at 11:15 tomorrow.
Just rebooked her on QF 861 at 8:15 tomorrow. Always amazes me the knock-on effects of something like this.

3 tonnes of debris????? What fell off? An entire undercarriage? Wow!

Our old friend JQ625 has just departed SYD at 2012 (92 minutes late) but is not due at AVV until 2147. JQ635 ex BNE, which is to form JQ626 to SYD, is running seven minutes early and should be at AVV at 2143. The QF website strangely shows JQ626 as due to depart AVV at 2100, only 15 minutes late (which must mean '2200') but then to lose an hour in running, arriving SYD at 2325, well past the curfew kickin.

A 13 minute turnaround is 'double quick time', so will JQ626 depart AVV around 2215 and hence arrive SYD - if allowed - post 2330?

One wonders how many dispensations will be granted tonight.

The reliability & credibility of UA has got to be shot on thier Australian services . I noticed also tonight the UA870 to SFO was cancelled on top of the problems for UA840. Why in the hell would anyone continue to fly with them ... i just don't understand. They would have to be the most unreliable carrier that flies to anywhere from Australia. Just on side note , with these cancellations , it means that there will be 4 x UA 744's in SYD tomorrow morning.

Isn't there an airport at Brisbane? If so, you might consider flying there instead of OOL.
Too late now. You know how loathe VA are to change flights to another destination.

Arrived just in time to miss the 8:22pm bus that would have gotten me to Brisbane at ~11:30pm. Now to wait for the 9:22pm bus that will get me to Brisbane at ~12:30am.

Just got in from CNS, circled for a good hour. Went to lounge for MEL leg, asked for xfer to earlier flight... Switched to QF 491, already delayed 2 hrs and a passenger has just got off "ill", they're hunting around for their bags.

What a nightmare flight.

I'd have offered you a lift to the station... but had a few drinks tonight so can't drive.

Thanks Sam. It is no problem. At least I will get to Brisbane albeit about 4 hours later than I would have originally.

I genuinely feel sorry for the people that cannot travel today. The VA flight after mine did not leave for OOL. Obviously there has been a flight cancelled from OOL-SYD and the one that I came up on is now a curfew runner to get to SYD before curfew.

There has also been a general announcement that 2 JQ flights are not going to SYD tonight and have been rescheduled for tomorrow morning.

This is like a nightmare....

What a nightmare. Pushed off just before 7 for a 5:30 flight to ADL and then sat on the taxiway for jun short of an hour. FO came on and told us that they had could push off as the runaway was about to reopen but when we got out there more debries was found so we had to what for that to be cleared before proceeding.

The he plane was about to get out of control as before the FO came on pax where already getting up after sitting around for 15 minutes to use the toilets and get stuff from their bags.

CSM had to come back on just before tack off to remind everyone we couldn't go until they all got back to their seats. There were still idiots up and about just as the engines were powering up for take off.

QF491 eventually departed SYD at 2149, 124 minutes late, and is about to touch down in MEL for an estimated gate arrival time of 2128, 128 minutes late. The slower schedules than in the 1980s have their uses!

The orange cancer's 626 may not have operated tonight ex AVV if flightaware is correct. This puts a JQ aircraft out of position on Monday morning which would be a story repeated at most of the other domestic airlines.

There's no way I'd want that above to fly to LAX compared to turning it around here.

Ouch - that isn't flying for a while.

Days like yesterday is why we need another airport - SYD's ability to handle one problem is abysmal to say the least.

Unlikely to have any aircraft out of position, they deadhead overnight if needed. No curfew to worry about.

What would be the likely cause of the blowouts. Was the plane too heavy on take off?
