priority tagged baggage

I will assume (from the specific terminal comments) that everyone (else) is talking about QF...;)

I fly with *A airlines almost exclusively - with NZ most often BACK to Oz... My last trip was an entirely normal experience... Checked in at ABQ.. bags were priority tagged and checked through LAX/AKL/SYD...

Two of my three were in the first 10 to appear in SYD... the third appeared at the Oversize area a few minutes later....

If it is just luck, then I am lucky.... a lot!

EDIT: HA! Of course everyone else is talking about QF... I use the "New Posts" method of keeping up on AFF.. didn't even realise what forum this was!!! Blonde moment there!

Whilst we are talking about QF, there isn't much harm in quoting the experiences on other airlines.

QF do handle a lot of baggage and not just of their airline.

If anything, it can provide a comparison basis as to whether priority baggage does work, works sparingly (i.e. sometimes, **** happens so deal), doesn't work in some airports but others spot on, etc. etc.

FWIW I flew with NZ AKL-MEL last December in J (cash) and BD*G, given priority baggage tag. Arrived in MEL and it still took ages for bags to be delivered and having priority tags didn't make squat difference. Of course, AFAICT QF handle NZ's bags in MEL.......

On another divergent Airline anecdote, we travelled SEA-(AS)-LAX, LAX-(NZ)-xAKL-(NZ)-MEL with a 3 hour break between bookings at LAX; AKL transit was 70 minutes. The AS metal flight was on an AA codeshare flight number.

Our four bags were tagged all the way through from SEA even with two e-tickets.

In MEL they were the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th bags out.

Now whether this was directly due to being transhipped, our Gold Elite status or both I know not, but it was good!

The worst (IMO) is when there are multiple bags to collect... and all but one come out - say - 2nd, 3rd and 5th... and the last one... doesn't show.... for ages...

Thinking about it the funniest thing is having priority tags into DPO-all the bags come in on the trolley and a bun rush when they open the doors.

Slightly off topic, but also on topic considering BA is a Qantas partner and many Qantas passengers fly BA. Anyway BA has recently changed their baggage tagging policy for their European flights and now no longer offer a priority baggage service in any class.

Getting back to Qantas though I have very rarely had any issue what so ever with their priority baggage service. I find it to be one of the more reliable priority baggage services around.

The only issue I have is when checking-in in Canberra for a flight that connects with an international flight they will only ever put business class tags on my bags despite being a platinum FF. I asked them once why and they said it was because first isn't offered on domestic flights s the max they tag is business. Now whilst of course it is true that they don't have first there is no reason why they couldn't place a first class tag on a bag that is connecting with one of their international flights.

BA and QF are not partners. They are allied via oneworld, they have some codeshares and some lounge agreements; that is all. Even then, BA seems to be a rather reluctant participant (well, either that or their staff are poorly trained in recognising oneworld members apart from their own).

Didn't know that BA don't priority tag Euro flights now. Seems pointless flying Club if you couldn't get your bags first (except for lounge access and a meal more than birdseed).

You should be able to get F tags. I can get F tags in BNE if I am checking through to an international service.

In saying that, I did have an occurrence similar to you when checking in in AKL through to SYD then SIN, where AKL-SYD was in J but SYD-SIN was in F. There are no F routes from AKL so the "most that the AKL premium check-in could tag me with was a J tag". Not sure if they had F tags behind the counter, but so be it.

They haven't had it on European flights for a long time; on the shorthaul routes all bags are together

Longhaul, then they do supposedly have priority handling, but nothing that I would ever rely on

I often wondered when checking in early for some QP time that my bags maybe get to be first on the trolley, and therefore should be last off the trolley (bottom of bag-stack) into the hold. Reverse this process at destination and THAT is why your Priority tagged bags are last off the carousel:?::?:
This is based on the theory that airline bagsters do not look at Priority tags, only destination code.

Was there a few weeks ago and saw pretty bright yellow tags behind the desk. Didn't get one though, but I tend to prefer biz tags anyway.

I've found that when there is a connection involved F/J tags are worthless, my guess is the bags are pulled off and no notice of tags is taken when putting onto the next flight (esp. if the connection is a partner airline and esp.(++) if you need to clear customs before the connecting flight).

Mostly found success if it is a single leg.

I relation to luggage transfer/ interlining, my experience on the rare occasions I do this is that my transferred bags are, more often than not, amongst the first off.

Interesting, as I have always had my bags tagged with the yellow first class tags when flying out of AKL either to SYD or MEL and then onto PER

Well mrsdrron's first international sector as WP today.Checked in at the first class counter at SYD.Flying to PVG and got business class tags. Our bags came out in the second half-no other business or priority tags visible around them. And her bag had been opened-nothing missing though.

I think it's very hit and miss with priority tagged bags... Unless I have J tags on my bag I'll always have priority tags, and whilst I would expect J tagged bags to come out first (which they usually do) I have frequently been at airports waiting for my "priority" tagged bags whislt watching the majority of other pax receiving their non priority tagged bags. (CBR is very bad for this)

IMHO CBR is not too bad. Perth was the worst. I complained to Mascot and they rang the airport manager and it improved for a while.

Try that!!

agree, i could never get into their FLounge in JNB.

You need to ask in CBR for the F tags.. they should be more savvy. They have the beligerence of a small town at times.

I must say it is very hit and miss, the first time I flew with access of QF Club/Priority baggage. It was BNE/SYD/CBR - my flight from Sydney to Canberra was virtually empty and I was the only one with Priority luggage, I was the first lot on the carosuel. As a first time QF Club user, I was thinking that this was like it everywhere - how wrong I was, Coming back was a different affair where my luggage got lost.

I found Sydney T3 to be the worst, I flew to SYD 9 weeks in a row and it varied from middle, end, lost luggage and everything in between.

Again luggage lost when I flew CHC SYD BNE (you'd be pretty pissed off too when you had been checked in, customs, lounge, flying, immigraton, transferred over to domestic for about 14 hours and all you wanted to do was go to bed)

BNE reasonably good. Although the times my luggage hasn't arrived and I cannot stand irate customers standing behind me waiting....

I must say it's a big inconvenience at the best of
times as there has been times I have had appointments
to go to at my destination, and I've been held up/late because my luggage either tagged priority or business has been the last to come
out.....

Domestically, MEL has to be my worst experiences with priority luggage tags. It's also the most consistant, bags are always out late.

Last night I got back from Adelaide and for the first time ever in my time with Q all the Business Class tag bags come out first in a nice bundle followed but the priority tagged bags... I almost fell over in shock, which i quickly got over and rushed over to my cab...

Good one Gumpy.

ZNE-PER - almost last out
PER-SYD - first group of bags.

50/50 for me still. But, l would rather it come out in the first batch of bags in SYD, than in PER, where l had a 4 hour transit anyways.
