Priority Checked Baggage - What a joke !

I don't blame the airline at all - isn't it down to the baggage handlers? I've had the same experience at JFK flying domestic AA - 40 minutes waiting for my bag. It is what it is. I'm justh appy to be back on the ground each time.

It may be the baggage handlers not doing their job, but it's the airline's management that are to blame for not either:
a. whipping the baggage handlers into doing their jobs properly
b. giving two coughs about what they offer and how it's delivered.

It's entirely on the shoulders of the airlines and their management.

I have also abandoned my Q-tags. Too many times the bag-drop machines were unable to read them and finally, the last straw, luggage was not loaded at Perth airport on a flight to Broome. It arrived at midday the next day- thank heavens for the Qantas emergency kits of toothpaste and brushes etc.

Priority baggage has been very inconsistent for years.

Can't say I have noticed any improvement but then I visit the lounge(s) for 10-15 minutes after flight by which time luggage is already on carousel.

Haven't we all seen those youtube clips of how gently baggage handlers treat our luggage when it's out of sight? Don't you think there's a chance that some of those guys harbour sufficient envy towards the frequent flying classes that they would delight in throwing their bags at the bottom of the pile when they see the priority tag, just to "get up their nose"?
I have witnessed baggage handlers mistreating luggage in plain view of everyone.

In MEL on a transit from ADL-MEL-SYD a number of years ago I notice the baggage handler throwing the bags from the baggage trolley onto the luggage belt loader on a 737. One of those bags was my golf clubs.

I have had mixed experiences. Arriving BNE Domestic the strike rate for bags coming off early has been reasonably good. I recall 4 international journeys involving QF in the last year or so and 1/2 of them involved mishandled baggage.

KBL-DXB (EK)-LHR (QF). One of 2 bags mishandled in DXB, although that was Marhaba services' fault, not QF or EK.

BNE-MEL-SIN (QF)-DEL (9W). One of 2 bags mishandled in MEL, despite bag having WP Q-tag, purple J tag on paper luggage label and striped 'international connection' tag.

That leaves me happy to have my bags turn up at all, delighted when they turn up first. I hate that sinking feeling you get when the last of the other PAX drift away from the carousel and your bag still hasn't turned up .

Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

I'm sure this has been done to death before, so mods please remove if this is duplicating old news...

[rant hat on]

Today I again encountered another of Qantas's great failed promises and it really made my blood boil (and as I write this I'm not even surprised anymore) but what exactly is the point of advertising priority baggage when it never actually happens??? And how hard is it to get it right???

Flew Syd-Bne today in J, am a WP, had bags clearly tagged with WP bag tag, and a pink business tag, and not only did my bags not come out priority, I stood waiting at the carousel for over 20 minutes (wtf?) with a handful of other people still waiting (after most had already collected their bags and left) and the bag finally came out dead last.

Why why why do qantas advertise something and then continually fail to deliver?? Besides being poor business practise, surely it is bordering on illegal??? (False advertising??)

Seriously, it not rocket science.

[end rant]

Re: Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

Recent experiences in South America really showed up what a bad job QF do of this. Both LAN and Avianca (over a total of 10 flights I think) managed to deliver our bags in the first set off the carousel when they were tagged as priority - I think twice they were actually first out.

Re: Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

I gave up on expecting it to work long ago.
International it works a little better but that could be up to the arriving port.

Re: Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

It seems to be related to Australian domestic flights specifically. At international terminals, both here and abroad, priority baggage generally works pretty well IME. But at domestic terminals, as the OP laments...it's pretty woeful!

Re: Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

Flew to Sydney last Friday from Melbourne. Gold bag tag on. Bag came out number 4 after approximately a 10 minute wait at the baggage carousel. Sometimes it works! :)

Re: Qantas priority baggage - what's the point??

I have alsways found it a bit hit and miss. Perhaps more miss.
Do as much HLO as I can.

At least you got your bags. I flew CNS-xBNE-SYD with a 70min connection in BNE today and they failed to load my bags in CNS eventhough I checked in over 70mins before the flight was due to depart.

We waited almost an hour in MIA for AA First class luggage recently. So frustrating. You would think it shouldn't be so hard. I couldn't help thinking that they must have all been on a union lunch break

Qtags or paper tags.

Qtags or paper tags.

Paper tags, the bags were uplifted with rush tags on the next CNS-SYD flight which arrived about 40mins after my BNE-SYD, all up lost about an hour.
