I've tried many times to print Virgin Australia boarding passes on google chrome and it always fails. (ive tried on multiple computers too).

Anyone else have the same problem? They usually just ask for Destination port and surname, however it would be good to fix the boarding pass issue for those who don't fly Virgin Australia regularly.

Yes, I have the same problem. The pop-up window that contains the boarding pass opens, then the 'print' dialog box automatically opens but once the print button is clicked the pop-up box closes before anything is sent to the printer.

It seems to be related to the way the pop-up box containing the boarding pass is automatically closed after the 'print' button is pushed. Most other web sites that do a 'pop-up-and-print' trick, even if they do open the print dialog automatically, don't automatically close the pop-up after the print button is pushed. Perhaps something is executing out-of-sequence on Chrome in a way that it doesn't on other browsers.

Unfortunately not possible, because you're presented with the print dialogue at the same time the pop-up opens. Then if you press "cancel", the pop-up closes and your boarding pass disappears. There's no chance to 'manually' execute a print command.

What about printing to PDF or other electronic format?

I don't have a PDF printer available on my home PC, but I did try using the Microsoft Office XPS printer driver, with the same result. In any case, the printer driver never showed any activity - ie the browser window was automatically closed before any job was submitted to the print queue (no matter what printer was selected). So I'm reasonably confident the flaw lies in the browser (and possibly with what the DJ website is instructing the brower to do).

I must admit I didn't really care that I was unable to print the pass and only invested about 90 seconds trying to solve the problem - I was more interested in making sure we weren't allocated seats 1A and 1C. Beyond that, we're going to be talking to the Lounge front desk staff anyway, so might as well get them to print a BP too.

Virgin - any update on this. Very frustrating just now to not be able to print the boarding pass and then to change to Explorer and be told I've got to go a counter.

I'm assuming this means I have to be at the airport that little bit earlier still for my 6:05am flight tomorrow to meet with the minimum 30 minute check-in requirement.

More frustrating still to call for help, go through the menus to 'web check-in' and be told how to check-in online.

Yes, this bug is still a few weeks off being finally fixed unfortunately.

We would ask for patience and that you use a different browser when it comes to printing of Boarding Passes.
Thanks

I hope this gets fixed soon. I always seem to realise I have used chrome when I should not have and it's too late.

You can print screen your BP and print from paint or photoshop (whichever floats your boat)

A pain I know... but it works

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S

Used to have this problem, and decided to try again last week. Running Chrome 13.0.782 on Linux. Printing was successful by clicking on the the Chrome spanner (right hand side of nav bar), then selecting Print, to my surprise. First time I've been able to print the BP on Chrome. Not sure if it has been fixed on the latest Chrome, and didn't have the time to fiddle then. Will see if I can experiment more tomorrow when I print my next BP.

I know this is an old thread, but I still have the same problem. Have Virgin fixed this? I tried printing my BP for a flight to Sydney, the BP opened I saved it as a pdf then printed it or so I thought. The paper from the printer was blank as was the pdf. I called the customer service desk and was instructed to go to the check-in and they will print a BP for me. As I've already checked in online this is a waste of time. I've never had any problems with Qantas BP, save to pdf and I have a record of the flight details. Bad form Virgin, I'll be using Qantas as often as I can from now on.

My experience is that Virgin fixed the problem discussed here late last year, I've been able to print boarding passes from Chrome with 100% success on each flight I've taken since mid-November 2011.

Your problem doesn't seem to bear any relation to the problem being discussed here. You apparently had the boarding pass on your screen to print, but decided to do something else with it instead. The poor form seems to lie with your PDF saving procedure.

With Virgin, it is possible to print to PDF or however you choose.... Then open up the PDF or image on your mobile device IE iPhone and then they can scan the barcode from here?

There's nothing technically preventing this, but wonder if there is a policy around it.

Jeez what charm school did you go to?

What else would I do or want to do with the boarding pass other than print it or save it for printing later?

The pop up for the BP came up along with the "print" window. I saved it as a pdf and printed the BP, the BP was blank as was the pdf. It allowed me to do this 4 times with the same result. This has also occurred in the past with Virgin. The "poor form" has nothing to do with my PDF saving procedure.

A very poor one, evidently! Apologies, gallusscozzie, my language there was indeed a bit sharp. My intention was to point out your problem is slightly different to what the rest of us were having late last year. 'Poor form' was intended to be a reflection on the software's performance, not your own computer skills.

Are you using Chrome's built in 'Print to PDF' to try and do this? I've never tried to use it for a boarding pass myself but when checking in tomorrow night for my next flight I'll give it a go and see if I have the same problem.

At the risk of upsetting you again you could always use areal browser :!: :D

True. But Chrome is so fast that we know the boarding pass is blank before most of the rest of you have entered a booking reference / logged into VFF! :p
