Can someone please enlighten me as to why the Premium seat is so much more expensive than the Business class seat and who would pay this?

I've seen domestic flights where the flexi fare costs more than the J fare. My guess is that it is an automated adjustment based on demand.

For example:

Most likely because premium economy is already very full for that flight, but business class is empty (and could have a sale on business class).

It's quite an extensive date window that prices are like this. Seems very odd to me anyone would pay for Premium over BC.

I wonder how many employers would pay for the economy/+ seat because of policy that said the employee wasn't entitled to business. Most government departments, I'd suggest.

Does seem to defy logic, but I'd say it's just a case of the available fare buckets in each class being contradictory.

I've seen this frequently on the long-haul routes. I'd imagine the higher J buckets are hidden and will become available once the cheap seats sell out.

Hmmmm....Even that explanation seems to defy logic. Are there any really bad J seats that are worse than PE? I guess most would buy the saver ticket but i can't see why anyone would buy the Flexi over the J.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It's highly likely VA's booking engine isn't smart enough to comprehend that... ;)

The rule? Don't look for logic in airfares!

Perhaps i should book the PE seat then see if i can get an upgrade? haha!!

I've seen Qantas advertising Y sale fares that were more expensive than red-e-deals. It's just computer fare anomalies

Surely they can set parameters that ensure the fare prices never cost more than the next fare bucket.. Though I'm not complaining. :p

We got J seats to AKL cheaper than Y seats over Christmas. J was on sale and Y wasnt...
