premium economy

did your son enjoy the gesture and the flight in premium?
He is always very appreciative :). I was lucky enough to get him an upgrade to J on the way to Australia, but he said premium was pretty good when he experienced it on the way back.

how likely are you to get an upgrade using QFF points from Y+ to J? as I understand it's not a certainty

In the end, I was able to get 2 seats in y+ from LAX to Mel on qantas using my ff- mind you, it cost over $1000 in taxes- that's seriously sickening.

this morning i was excited to use my AA Advantage miles to score 2 seats in J - mel-syd-lax and taxes were only something ridiculous like AU$23 each- mind you, I had to buy the AA miles in the first place, so i guess it's as broad as it's long.

It comes down to status, I'm WP and have a 100% success rate in long haul international upgrades.

Also the day you travel - between USA and Aus mid week seems more successful. Son's partner has 100% success rate as a silver on a Wednesday or a Thursday, going Y to J.

Can you request upgrade from PE to J if you are booked in a t class fare basis for PE? I know you can't if booked in sale fare for Y.

Going to NYC for honeymoon in September and was going to book Y then request upgrade to either PE or J but they outbound prices for PE have come down heaps and the difference now between Y/PE is not much.

I looked at the conditions on the Y+ sale fares and they clearly state are eligible for upgrade. Our BNE-JFK fares last year were sale fares with successful upgrades to J on both legs home.

Speaking of pricing for Y+.......

The sale price available for a tiny amount of time and the rest of the year the fare is up to $6837. Seriously, who pays these prices? Do QF not know that you can fly J for that money?

or fly on codeshare flights operated on QF for much less (which if you're only flying infrequently the status isn't worth accruing).

it seems that they run about 50:50 between refurb and not these days

At least you were lucky enough to snag a Y+ seat. We were downgrade victims last month on our flight back from HND due to the aircraft (presumably) dying in JNB?

The CSM advised he was told nothing prior to boarding but soon found out when the DYKWIA J downgrade victims started playing up!

Does anybody have any experiences of compensation of a HND-SYD Y+ to Y one way downgrade?

There is a table around - search for other downgrade threads. A friend of mine was downgraded from y+ to Y lax to syd and it was only around $200. She did get other bits thrown in like access to the J lounge in Lax and I think they gave her 3 seats together in economy, but actual cash refund was pretty small.

Not many of those as QF doesn't really codeshare with BA or CX or JL and EK doesn't operate Y+.

I'm confused - if the plane is not refurbished, shouldn't that mean that there are more J seats as the old F seats become J seats, and so in fact Y+ customers can often select the last section of business seats in this instance, rather than their being a downgrade risk?

Flying SYD-HND in Y+ in July and (at this stage at least) we're seeing the refurbished seat map, but was hoping for it to switch to non-refurbished so we can grab some MK1 Skybeds!

I don't think that you can get MKI skybeds for R/T/W fares
I have a HND-SYD in april in y+ which shows the old Y+ config with 32W but it no longer has the lower J cabin set aside for Y+ seating.
maybe they don't do that anymore?
