Just getting onto QF652 to BNE and they're actually enforcing the premium boarding lane . First time I've ever seen it in 5 years

Enforcing how? As in, sending people who are in the wrong lane to the back of the right one?

I saw the same at Perth on Monday morning boarding QF590 to Adelaide. They had a staff member (ground crew I think?) standing at the entry to the premium lane checking boarding passes.

As the meercat would say....Simples!

They certainly do this in Asia. One time as newly minted SG I was in the general queue. They checked my BP and took me to the front of a very long queue. Simples.

Good to hear this might be improving. But will wait a little longer to see what comes of it. Could be a few one off's. Perhaps new staff on the job.
Ive seen too many times boarding being a free for all. Even a gate agent asking for someone to "sort out the premium queue" but nothing happening.

As mentioned by others. Ive seen it done well by others. CX & AA are good at it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I can only comment that I flew QF out of MEL domestic last Saturday and boarding was the same old shambles as uaual.

The priority queues often are very long. When the queues work properly its great. When it doesn't you wish it did.

MEL is always like that. :( Just returned from MEL-BNE-TSV-BNE-MEL over a few days and it wasn't even close to enforced on any leg. Leaving MEL everybody lined up in the premium lane!

QF are fine with it internationally. It's their domestic ops where it's hit and miss.

IMO, in locations where Qantas has two scanners at the gate, the moment priority boarding is announced both scanners should call forward from the priority queue only and the standard queue should be held back until the priority queue is depleted. Then standard boarding should be called, with priority customers able to walk down the priority side of the queue at any time thereafter.

Now the reality is - standard boarding and priority boarding start at the same time (in locations with two scanners at the gate) and no priority is given to priority boarding, in fact it is often quicker to board through the standard queue, as invariably someone in the priority lane will have an issue that holds everyone behind up.

Apart from preferring to stay in the lounge as long as possible and board at the last minute, I find the priority lane of limited value when there is only one aerobridge in use.
You just queue in a different place.
It is true that being allowed to board first is a solution to this but that is a slightly different issue which doesn't require a dedicated lane.
I would be happy if QF in PER started enforcing the priority lane AND ensured the A330s always dock at a gate with dual aerobridges and actually use both of them!
There should be enough now QF has possession of T3 & T4 as VA had a couple of gates with dual bridges

Interesting out of Sydney this morning.
Announcement was made "priority will be given to the left (economy) side as there is only one scanner in operation". Scanner was on the right side. Premium queue had to basically but into their own side.

Dont know if it's the normal way if there is only one scanner but it seemed a little odd.

.......AA are good at it.

Not really.

During a recent trip to Trumpistan (which included an SR component), we found that "Group 1" (ie priority) boarding on AA was only loosely enforced: the major consequence of which as that if flying F, by the time you got on board the overhead lockers were full of bags from people seated in Y; somehow they think parking their bag in F lockers gets them off the plane sooner. We learned very quickly to leave the lounge early to be near the front of the priority queue to enable overhead locker space. The FAs on board don't enforce bag placement.

I find it works best on flights with wide body aircraft and dual aerobridges. F/J down one. Sheep and Cattle down the other.
