I'm now all but a lowly QP NB, and hopefully by the end of tomorrow will have some QF longhaul flights booked under BA flight codes.

Am I likely to be able to preallocate my seating still (in the 'restricted section'), given I'm not PS anymore?

Short answer: no.

BA will only preassign for QFF Gold or higher - all pax in reservation must be gold or higher also.

I can never get the seat maps on checkmytrip.com to work for my BA flights - not sure how others fare.

Which stinks for a Ruby like myself :) (even Oneworld.com has it listed as a benefit that should be offered).....

Except that BA have NO official Elite Level equivalent to Ruby ... they don't offer seat pre-selection to their own BAEC members unless they are of Sapphire or Emerald equivalent.

Having said that, some travel agents are able to get preallocation of seats on BA for Qantas Club (and) SILVER Tier BUT everyone in the reservation must be Qantas Club Silver or higher for this to work.

So even though it's QF metal, because it's on a BA flight number then it's a no?

Well that sucks!

Sorry Mel but I must have been lucky as I traveled on BA15 with a work colleague and I am Platinum and she is Silver but the QF service desk was able to get us each exit row 26 on the 777 no problems. I assumed it was because we were on the same booking reference as she tried to do it the other day on the same flight but was denied.

As a Platinum member you are entitled to seat selection and also for person travelling with you so nothing out of the ordinary there

If entitled to pre-select seats , then you can pick nearly any unselected seat including the exit seats .. there a a few exceptions for Sapphire members, but they are not v much

It's a shame that my TA (QANTAS TELEPHONE SALES AUSTRALIA) :p is unable to assist. :-|

The only time they should be able to do it is if at least one person in the booking has at least Sapphire status

What about QF codeshare on BA metal? QF handles the booking because it has a QF flight number. Can QF pre-assign seats?

Ok, flights booked via QF.

Nov 5 PER-MEL-SIN-FRA
Nov 28 LHR-SIN
Nov 29 SIN-PER

MEL-SIN (QF009) it has given me 41C, the furthest forward I can grab is row 40. 40D-G look empty; am I already in as good as I can be or should I grab 40D?

SIN-FRA (QF005) it has given me 30C, I can select all the way up to 26 (first available row though is 27). Good seats appear to be 31D? Please let me know if you think otherwise

LHR-SIN (QF032) it has given me 53G, the furthest forward I can grab is row 50. 80K looks to be available, is that my best option?

SIN-PER (QF072) it has given me 24B, only a short flight so this will be fine as it will allow me to get off the plane reasonably quick.

    • [*]There are no 41 D-G seats, row 40 has no bassinets and the cut out at the bottom of the thin bulkhead between you and Y+ is ample giving plenty of room.

    • [*]27D/G for me ... or 35H

  • LHR-SIN (QF032) it has given me 53G, the furthest forward I can grab is row 50. 80K looks to be available, is that my best option?

    • [*]What are you waiting for? ... grab 80K NOW!

  • SIN-PER (QF072) it has given me 24B, only a short flight so this will be fine as it will allow me to get off the plane reasonably quick.

    • [*]That's an OK seat, I prefer 23B/J.

    • I would suggest 41H, 41D or 41G if available. 41H has crew rest, 41 D/G only one inside needs to climb over - up to 2 in 41C. Note that 40D-G are bassinet positions.

Thanks serfty.

Note my MSN conversation with anat0l:
Daniel - I came, I saw, I concurred says:
heh. noice. 33kg will come in handy
Dan says:
i'm hoping serfty will come to the rescue on this one!

    • 41 D-G doesn't even show up on the map that I can see.. so I'd be better to take a gamble and snag 40G ?

  • 27D/G for me ... or 35H
    • 35H is taken but 27G is free. This seems to be the 2nd row of whY, though? Is that right? 31D seems to be out on its own, is this an error with the map?

  • What are you waiting for? ... grab 80K NOW!
    • On hold at the moment.....:!:

    • All greyed out for me unfortunately!

No worries - being a WP, I'd be looking at other seating (maybe 80K). ;)

(although I should have a proper verdict on 80A/K by this time next month)

 of course, a 4 class aircraft. - Ignore what I posted - Indeed, there:
  • are no 41 D-G seats,
  • row 40 has no bassinets &
  • the cut out/forming at the bottom of the thin bulkhead between you and Y+ is ample giving plenty of room.

Ok, I now have 27G on SIN-FRA and 80K on LHR-SIN

What was your thoughts on the MEL-SIN? Should I take the gamble and grab 40G? Seatguru seems to think it is a good seat.
