As flights are expensive right now I reckon the is a great deal. KUL- MEL on Philippinne Airlines A321, which is lay flat business but not all seats have direct isle access.

The $857 o/w price can be lowered with an OTA. Return is available at a good price too.

Some days they do fly their excellent A330 to MEL
Have been looking at this later in the year and is just on $1k ex SIN too

As nice as it is to travel lie flat, and would be a good choice ex-MNL, at least in winter PR departs SIN @ 13:40 and arrives in MEL @ 06:40. I much prefer to take domestic narrow body style J seats you get on Scoot (plus), leaving just over 2 1/.2 hrs earlier @ 11:00, but arriving 10 hrs earlier @2025, and not having to spending overnight on a plane, but instead in a proper bed. (Have thought about this, yes!). But I guess for the experience, it could be OK.

After vanishing for a few months this J fare has resurfaced. The prices from KUL - MEL/BNE/SYD are ~$1,450 from around February onward. Even this one for $1,866 over the busy Xmas / New Year period is cheaper than SQ Y (over $2K) on the same dates.

I flew this earlier in the year and even though it ain't Qsuites, it's still better than economy. Meals were fine and the seats were lay flat, but they were 2x2.

PR209 MNL-MEL is almost always its refurbished A330s with 1-2-1 in J, as is PR211 MNl-SYD.

The A359 that has more J seats ran one flight to MEL in recent days.

It is most unusual for a horrible unrefurbished A333 to be on the MEL or SYD routes.

What route were you on?
That’s the old config and they are horrid
KUL - MNL; MNL - MEL. I think it was an A321.

This year I've been fortunate enough to fly J on SQ 777 & A350, QR 773 (both Qsuites and the older 2x2, QF A330 and the PR seat was not as good as any of them but was perfectly acceptable to me at this price. Certainly not horrid.

YMMV

Your photo is of KUL to MNL, as it's the A321 unrefurbished.
