G'day.

Just wondering, I'm aware aware that the limit for lithium ion powerbanks being carried onboard an aircraft in Australia is ~28,000 mAh at >140W.

If I bring my 25000 mAh100W powerbank, plus a 20,000 mAh 45W bank, but I ensure that the latter is fully depleted, is that acceptable?

Also, I just bought a 100W GaN charger that you connect to the wall.

Any requirements for the transportation of these?

They are just wall chargers as far as I'm aware.

TIA

I doubt they'd care if it was full or charged. I reckon they'd just add up the numbers and get a 'computer says no' answer.

Then if you argued too vociferously you'd risk being charged with battery. (Unlike the flat one.)

Cheers,

Do ypu know this from experience or are you guessing ?

I got my 5000mAh power bank confiscated at Bangkok Airport all because it didn't have the capacity marked on it!

It was ridiculus as it was quite apparent, just from the size, it was nowhere near 30,000mAh.

Prevous to this it had gone to Delhi and back, Timor Leste and back, and even through Bangkok previously.

If that can happen to me then it would seem trying to push issues in security can be a losing game.

I don't think the dangerous goods rules make any distinction between charges or depleted. That would open up a whole other can of worms.

I always take 2 10000 power banks. They both have 10000 on them but one in minute numbers. Over 30 flights in the last 6 months and no one has ever looked at them.

I took a 30000mAh/114Wh Powerbank to Africa last year...we were staying in a tent in Serengeti with no power supply so needed it to charge a laptop, a SLR and small camera plus 2 mobile phones....worked a treat (we charged the Powerbank in the main lounge area during the day when we were out on safari drives :) )...I was never asked about the Powerbank in Syd, Sin, Ist, Cai, Kgl, Dar, Doh and Adl airports :)
