It's actually normally cheaper to buy an adaptor rather than buying the Figure 8 / Cloverleaf plugs in my experience.
Although, I now have cloverleaf Euro, UK and Australian cords, and only take the appropriate one with me wherever I go. However, an adaptor is still required - take for example a flight from London-Hong Kong-Australia.
Using laptop in lounge (UK) - UK Plug. Lounge in HK (UK Plug), Australia - AU plug. The differences are bigger if you fly through other parts of Europe or Asia on the way back to Australia. It's easier to carry an adaptor than another cord.
Back to the OP - I think the easiest solution is to buy an adaptor somewhere... whether that be Australia, Europe, Asia etc. They're very cheap in Asia, not so cheap in Australia or Europe. The next best option is to find someone who *looks* Australian and ask if they have an adaptor you can borrow for a while - or ask at the Lounge entry desk... they might have some they can lend (but no idea).
