This will sound like a really stupid question, but I hope someone can answer me.

When someone already has a QC Bronze and then becomes a QC Silver, does he/she get the visitor's pass to QC, or does that person miss out just because they already parted with the money to become a QC member?

Yes, you will still get the complimentary invitation to the QP regardless. It comes withe the PS kit, attached to the bottom of the welcome letter. I think the best use of it is to invite the extra guest into QP when you're travelling in a trio.

Thanks Raccoon111. Is it transferable? If it is, I wouldn't mind giving it to my long suffering spouse to use.

It has no name on the invitation, just a use by date.

So yes you can give to anyone and I don't think they need to be flying with QF on the day. Best value appears to be using it in international QC lounges in Australia and some overseas lounges.

Thanks JohnK. I was hoping that it can be given away, so that's a good news.

After slogging it in 'short hop' domestic economy every week for the last couple of months (my frequent routes are very inefficient way of getting SCs, I found - most sectors I do work out to be $15 per SC) at my own cost, I was hoping I could put them to good use :D:D

Even if your'e a member of the QC and a PS, they still send you a get-in-free card. Mine usually expire cause the lounge dragons have never stopped me bringing >1 guest traveller.

My time will come ...

Dont worry to much about the expiry date, I used one that expired in 2004 at the OOL QP yesterday with no questions asked.

Qantas actually note on the accompanying letter that the card can be used for an additional Guest or that you can give it to another QF PAX to employ.

I do believe if used as an invitation, rather than a guest pass the user needs to be flying QF (maybe AA/BA in some cases).

Thanks Serfty, that's great. It's good to know that they are fully transferable.

They make great Ebay sales as well.

I've seen at least one regular here selling one on Ebay...

LOL. I'm giving them to my long-suffering spouse (who's a QF FF member but is unlikely to reach Silver, and will be travelling without me in September).

Not necessarily. I had 2 complimentary invitations with me on my last trip. One was to be used in BNE before flight BNE-SIN and the other was going to be used in BKK before AY flight BKK-SIN.

As it so happens I managed to get into BNE J lounge for nothing as there was no one at front desk for about 10 minutes. Well my Finnair misadventure ensured that I was flying LX182 BKK-SIN when returning and I used the complimentary invitation in QF lounge in BKK (expiring May 06 anyway) and not a word was said on whether I had QF flight. I presented the voucher and mentioned that I am flying LX but was waved through.

Don't know whether this was a one off situation but I would suspect that QF would want you to sample the lounge in case you are stuck in a NB or PS timewarp and would rather purchase QC membership after enjoying the lounge experience.

I geuss it's probably not a one off situation. IIRC, these do indicate you should be flying QF(BA/AA) to use one.

I guess Qantas have allowed them to be used differently; perhaps for promotional purposes as in the situation described by JohnK, if for no other reason.

But when flying AY business between BKK-SIN//HKG, you would get access to the QP at BKK anyways. Maybe the front door person (they aint dragons in BKK :D ) already knew of the situation JohnK was in?!

Who knows... Anyways, the passes do have validity at certain times. Lounge dragons can be very friendly when they want to :D

Mal, this was my last AY cattle class flight.

When I went to QP already getting a little late for my flight as we were delayed long time in LX check-in. I did not mention any part of my story just that I am flying on LX182 and can I use the invitation today. She waved me through no problem. So again I am guessing that if you have one of these invitations they will not knock you back purely for promotional purposes. Doesn't hurt to try if you have one of these anyway.
