Possibility of Qantas changing B787-9 seating layout in the future?

And here we go.

Trump reimposing sanctions which include Iranian oil
US 10year bond yield going up and now more than Australian 10year bond yield. The economy there is powering along.

Watch the price of oil start to go up and inversely QF prospects.

No chance before this of QF giving more room to Y passengers on the 787. Even less chance now

We will be paying more at the bowser as well.

Why would QFA give more seat room in Economy at the expense of shareholder return?

Repeat business?

I flew on the JQ 787 today SYD-OOL in bulkhead. Tight. I am assuming very similar to QF 787. Ok for 1 flight but there is no way I would want to sit in that seat for 9+ hours.

QF came to the long haul 787 party late
QF would’ve been caught-up in the superjumbo thing due to everything being long-haul from Oz, I assume?
So had probably committed to buying A380’s before the 787 concept (more efficient smaller planes between more destinations rather than big aircraft between fewer hubs & hence more ‘plane-changes for passengers wanting to go to those smaller destinations) had particularly taken-hold & before 787’s were on sale ... ?

I’d have said the same.

Jetstar is a bit more jammed-in; 30” pitch & 17” width, c/f QF’s 31” & 17.5” width.
I think I’d feel that knee-room, given that the same pitch felt pretty tight in the A330 just to/from Singapore.

9 across in a fixed width aircraft cabin. So whether 17.5 or 17, it’s still the same squish. Where would they get the 0.5 x 9 = 4.5in from?

It’s a good question; I assume not aisle ... maybe some aisle. Skinnier food-carts?
Maybe some cabin-side trim?

The 17.2” in the aforementioned A330 was fine by me; it was the 31” that was getting to me. I guess the newer seats having a skinnier seatback would get me an extra inch, there, though ... I s’pose.

Almost the same. From memory the A330 seat is 17" across.

I just booked an award end November BKK-SYD. Both QF and EK have availability in economy but there is no way I will book the QF24 torture. Should have booked the EK flight for a few extra hours in BKK with wife and daughter but flying 3K to SIN early morning then QF2 to SYD in comfort.

AFAIK the aisles and wall trims are the same
The extra legroom is often cannibalised from seat back thickness making them very hard to sit in
