Points required from Cairns to Bali

Does anyone know the Krisflyer points cost of a flight from Cairns to Bali (via singapore) is 94,000 miles when it's only 75,500 from Brisbane. is this a mistake on their website ?

The only thing I can think of is Maximum Permitted Mileage is exceeded for CNS-SIN-DPS, so you're seeing a CNS-SIN + SIN-DPS fare.

Usually the MPM is an unknown multiple of the direct mileage. Noting that CNS-SIN-DPS is 94% longer than CNS-DPS, whilst BNE-SIN-DPS is 74% longer than BNE-DPS. It doesn't make a lot of sense though given miles requires is the same, but that's probably the reason.

What does Darwin have to do with CNS-SIN-DPS?

It might be that MPM has been applied here and the SIN-DPS is considered backtracking? But that wouldn’t explain why BNE-SIN-DPS is pricing correctly.

It should be a zone 9->zone1

Nothing! Just a typo. I meant to say CNS-DPS. I was mentally thinking wonder if it’s the same for the Zone 8 from DRW as well (adding two separate fares). Will edit for clarity.

Playing with their calculator CNS-SIN-DPS is considered a backtracking route, but BNE-SIN-DPS is not.

It might be that MPM has been applied here and the SIN-DPS is considered backtracking? But that wouldn’t explain why BNE-SIN-DPS is pricing correctly.

There seems to be a mysterious factor that SQ applies to determine MPM/backtracking as a % of point to point mileage. As (BNE-SIN-DPS) /(BNE-DPS) is lower than (CNS-SIN-DPS)/(CNS-DPS) there's a differentiator somewhere in between the two.
