I used to always fly One World for the Qantas points. About a year ago I use all my Qantas points and decided to switch to Velocity. What I have found is that I never get any points when I am flying on a partner airline even if I have a VA flight number.

I understand that in theory there are ticket classes that got points and those that didn't, but I never worried about that with Qantas because I always got something. What annous me most of all is not getting the status credits.

Have I just been unlucky ?

I have flown on Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand in the last 4 months and never got a single point. Is this typical ? If it is i'll be switching back to Qantas.

Thanks,
Leigh.

That sounds like there is something wrong. Do they show up in your account at all? Have you made a retro claim?

Suggest you look at this page:
Points Earn with Airline Partners | Velocity Frequent Flyer

When you look at your Velocity statement, does it show 'NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EARN' or do you just see nothing for the flight? Are you making sure your Velocity FF number is appearing on your boarding passes and bookings?

Also, just like QF and Oneworld, you have to be very careful about what fare class you're booked into. VA is a little more, in that if you're on a QF codeshare on partner metal, it's points/SC's as usual and VA are not. eg, on SQ, VA Codeshare fares booked into Q, T or V class earn nothing. Virgin Atlantic will earn something, but if you're on the cheapest of cheap, very little.

*Selected Saver fare classes (T, V, Q) are ineligible for Points earn when travelling on Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir

Retro claim was rejected..

Some more information would be good - what airline were you actually flying on and what fare class had you purchased from VA? I've certainly noticed that EY and DL codeshare flights can take a little (or lot..) longer to credit, but they should always credit correctly, per the VA earn table.

Annoyingly, some SQ codeshare flights do NOT earn anything - it depends entirely on what VA fare you purchased.

There were 2 SQ and one VS flight. I am assuming it is the fare class, but its annoying that I should have to worry about that when I have a VA flight number.

So far as I know there are no exceptions for VS, so that should have earned and I would follow it up if I were you. For the SQ flights, were they booked in T, V or Q class? If so, I'm afraid you're out of luck - not eligible for earn.

I agree, it's stupid/confusing/annoying that there are VA tickets that you don't earn points on -- especially seeing as there's no prior warning that the ticket you buy isn't going to earn you anything. :(

Is there any chance that the points may have credited to another partner program like Flying Club on VS or do you only hold membership with VA & QF? The reason I ask is if the points have some how automatically credited to a different FF program you won't be able to retro claim on VA.
