I am planning to travel SYD-JFK-SYD on QF107/108 later this year, and was looking to use my points to request an upgrade to J both ways. I will be booking an Economy Saver fare, which following the new QFF changes is considered as Economy (rather than Discount Economy prior to the changes). As QF have indicated that there will be no changes to points requirements for flight upgrade awards, does this mean that I will be able to request an upgrade to Business at the current Economy rate (i.e. 60,000 pts each way rather than 96,000)?

Do I have much of a chance of scoring the upgrade as a Silver QFF Member?

As have been mentioned by other AFFers, unfortunately point upgrade is a lottery! Priority will be given according to status and should seats be available and filled by CL,WP1,WP & SG, then seats will be allocated to PS. I am aware of some PS who were lucky enough to have been upgraded at the gate. Good luck!

I'm fairly certain that the fare buckets for upgrades have not changed, so unless you are booked into the Y fare bucket, you will be charged the points for upgrading from discount Y.

I have now booked SYD-JFK-SYD on QF107/108 on an S Class Saver Fare and when I go to place an upgrade request, the points requirement is for upgrade from discount Y (96,000 pts). Interesting to note in the fare conditions though:

Effective for travel on and from 1 July 2014

  • You may request Flight Upgrade Awards on this fare. However, Flight Upgrade Awards can only be redeemed on flights that are operated by Qantas with a QF flight number.
  • For the purposes of redeeming Qantas Points for a Flight Upgrade Award, this fare is classed as Economy.
Do you think perhaps the upgrade requests system doesn't yet take into account the QFF changes?

Are you in Y orY+?
I thought you could only request one class upgrade so if your in economy you would be requesting upgrade to premium economy wouldn't you?
Perhaps im wrong or they allow silver and above go 2 classes up.

Im on same flights at the end of the month with requests from premium to business. But am a NB.

I'm travelling in Y. You can request an upgrade from Y to J (including from discount Y) regardless of your FF status.

You are able to request Y to J but not Y+ to F. It has nothing to do with status.
