Hi AFF'ers,

I know someone here will know the answer to this question. Qantas.com, under FF -> Earning Points -> Cars & Hotels shows that both Budget and Avis earn 3 points per dollar. The fine print reads:

Within Australia, points are earned on time and kilometre charges, excluding GST, insurance and miscellaneous charges.

But it seems that my recent bookings are earning far fewer points than I expect, but I cannot calculate how this calculation has been made. I have tried excluding some charges, doing the GST calcs, etc. but I just cannot come up with the same points that have posted, based on the bill in front of me.

Does anyone know if there are any charges in hire car bookings that are excluded from points earn ?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

I havent credited car hire to Qantas in a long time but you need to exclude things such as Location service charge, Administration recovery, credit card surcharge, Vehicle Rego recovery, GST etc.

Everything other than the basic daily rate is excluded I think.

That's spot on, so location fee, rego fee, GST, fee payable because we can fee etc are all not points earning.
