Points Calculation with Hertz

I've had nothing but trouble with Hertz in the past so haven't rented from them in ages, but with the recent Velocity upgrade to Presidents Circle (which they stuffed up... should have been a sign) I thought I'd give them another try.

I booked a car for a day in BNE with a base rate of about $72 and ended up being $178 by the time all the extras got added on.

I then received 216 Velocity points for the rental (plus 216 WP bonus). Seems they just used the base rate for points calculation. A look at the Velocity website pretty clearly states that 3 points are given per $1 spent, however now after speaking with Hertz they tell me I'm totally wrong and they're correct in only allocating points on the "time and KM's" and not the total $ spent (which seems to contradict what Velocity are advertising).

Has anyone else picked this up?

Its pretty clear in the terms that its time and kms, as everything else is excluded in the earn:

Members will not earn Points on contract rates, international wholesale rates, staff and industry rates, restricted rate plans, damage liability cover, optional insurance, vehicle registration fee, premium location fee, admin fee, taxes, GST, one way fees, age surcharges, additional driver fees and equipment such ski racks, baby/booster seats or GPS rental costs.

Yep it's just time and kms which is annoying

EG - Total rental cost of $80, you only earn points on about $30 of that in some cases :(

Thanks, managed to skip over that in the terms. It's still a bit misleading the way they word it on the main page. Is that unique to Velocity? I'm pretty sure I've never noticed that with QFF. I think I'll go back to giving up on Hertz, there are a few to many hidden extras that I'd rather not deal with.

QF are the same in terms of time and km charges only. If its short rentals with Hertz, better off crediting to VS with their flat 1100 points.

Interesting.. wonder how I've missed that over the years. I generally don't need the excess reduction as my annual insurance pays for it, however it just expired so I added it on this time and that was probably caused the obvious difference.

Even that's a scam... ~$50 becomes $80 by the time they add a million different surcharges to it. I guess all car rentals are the same. It's nice in the US where I can book a prepaid rate with all inclusions and know that it's my final figure.
