Flying on A380 QF82 SIN SYD, I made a J point upgrade request, opt in to a gate upgrade too.

Flight is in 15 or so hours, and I got a Y+ upgrade, seat confirmed, point deducted.

Is that possiblel? I always thought before checkin its J or declined, and after checkin It may be J or Y+ (or declined)

EF still shows F2 J5, which I imagine means there are at least 3 physicall seats available.

Called Qantas, got Fidji, agent told me I am still in the upgrade queue.

F2 J5 means at least 7 seats available, two in First and 5 in business.

That's the number of available seats for sales. Not sure it means there are 5 physical seats available in J. If Qantas optimise things correctly, they can overbook J by 2 seats, knowing they have two spare F available they can use for upgrade. As long as they keep F and J seats inventory in sync, that's an easy way to optimise revenue. I would do it. It's a bit of a separate thread I guess I am curious if you are anyone knows if Qantas does that.

But I am also really keen to get some more insights into the initial question in term of Y+ upgrade cleared prior checking close, when J got requested initially.

Probably to make sure you don’t miss out entirely on any upgrade if they process lower status upgrades to PE, but run out of J seats before getting to you in the upgrade queue.

If this isn’t what they did previously perhaps their upgrade systems have improved.
