We were considering returning to Oz but have decided we will sit it out in the US for a bit longer, even though the situation here feels more dire. We had to balance between doing 2-3 month self isolation in our apartment in a low risk environment, vs having to expose ourselves to that unmonitored immigration queue then doing 2 weeks quarantine in a hotel surrounded by possible infection.

I do agree with what the government is doing, I think it is the right thing seeing so many cases have been imported from overseas arrivals. It's a pity a few selfish people could only think of themselves vs whats best for the community. I would also be happier if they were taking temperatures etc on arrival and start separating the herd before the immigration queue.

They have needed to implement this scheme because so many were ignoring the self discipline one. And in SA, out of 299 cases, only three or four have been community spread but which can be traced back to an overseas introduction. Currently US visitors who ignored the curfew have closed down Barossa Valley immediately. Services that could still be open have had to close.
Stay safe.

What surprised me is they did not do this earlier. I was reading Oz media and early on there was constant mention of how many infected had recently returned from overseas. I think for those that broke self isolation well maybe it needs to go beyond fines.

I think they needed to get the numbers down to a manageable level and they could only do that once they banned non citizens from coming here. There is a planned roll out, we just don't get to see it. And then numpties like NSW break it.

Are they testing all new arrivals now not just the Temp test?
From what I have seen in the reports they are only CV19 testing those likely to have it. This is not surprising as tests are still limited in supply.

As the new 15 minute (though less reliable) test gets arrives in vast numbers no doubt more widescreen testing will be done.

With the Hilton and Swissotel being used in Sydney and the Duxton utilised in Perth, at this point I want to go overseas just so I can come back to be quarantined.

I’ve got a relative who is returning to Australia this coming week - does anyone know how the quarantine period is calculated? Is day of arrival considered Day 1 or Day 0?

I need to sort out connecting flights home for them... thanks!
I arrived on 17 March and the paper given to me said, "Date when your self-quarantine finishes: 1/4/20". Whether that means I'm free at 12am 1 April or 12am on 2 April, I really don't know. I feel as though "Your last date of self-quarantine" would have been clearer.

Some not so happy. I did giggle but I'm assuming that the lady doesn't actually have the issues Lara describes given they have regular testing.

We completed the paperwork with our address and phone number arriving Saturday afternoon (28th) into MEL, but did not receive a piece of paper indicating finish date, just a generic guidance document (that I'd already read on the government website).

I dont understand why theyre not using airport hotels like the Rydges and Stamford in Sydney. Why bus them closer into the City?

I did hear that some went to Rydges at the a/port. Not sure where they all are though, prob for security reasons. Perhaps they are spreading them around. Those that were bussed to the IC on Macq St, and then ended up at IBIS apparently spent 5 hours on the bus, not 3 hours as reported earlier.

I thought the picture of those arriving at the Swissotel showed that no social distancing was required to get to the hotel. 1585537883845.png .

I don't think I'd like to spend 2 weeks at the IBIS, and from what I saw of the take away containers, the food is what I'd expect from the local Westfield food court at 4 pm when they're trying to get rid of the left overs.

The Rydges was where 2 of the doctors were staying. They had booked it as their flight to Perth was the Saturday morning.when they went to check out they were given this-

Seems to be an issue there w' dates of when boarding the cruise and when disembarking the cruise. It's difficult to follow that's for sure, and not surprised someone would write "lies"on there. So, effectively a 3 day iso?

I do not know about you, but there is no way I would want anyone who has just flown into Australia after any international flight, let alone a series of international flights, to be flying anywhere in Australia till they have been quarantined for 14 days. Especially i they have also been on any form of cruise ship, but even if they have not.

And I do not care when any particular deadline was meant to start or not start. We know where we are at, we know what the virus can do and we know that how it can be transmitted.

Way too many! Its in the thousands- Yes, i'm surprised at how many people didn't take the hint and come home sooner.

I think those images are from the guy's blog, drrron? I don't think it did him much credit at all, although he was no doubt under great stress then. If you read the previous posts of his there, they weren't much better. The thing I found disappointing from a medical professional was the statement along the lines of 'we all felt fine - why weren't we allowed to continue?'.

The form didn't ask him how he was getting to the Rydges, it asked how they were getting to next place: 'hotel?'. Seems a reasonable thing to ask.

But he answered Rydges which is just across the road. Then they came back and had to write how he was getting there.

Since when does "we all felt fine - why weren't we allowed to continue" have anything whatsoever to do with how much of an infection risk he was to the Australian public.

Most Covid sufferers could make that same statement for the first 3-14 days before they fall ill, in the meantime infecting countless others.

And he is a doctor!!!
