Dear AFFers, we have an upcoming J flight on EVA Air leaving BNE. I understand they direct you to Plaza Premium by default but that we would be able to access SQ’s lounge on the basis of flying J on a star alliance airline.

Our flight departs around 1030pm so will probably get to airport around 8. I understand that SQ has a flight leaving at 1130pm so their lounge will be open from 830pm. I think I will want to take a shower so understand that PP has 1 shower suite but SQ has two.

Has anyone been to both and do you have a preferred lounge?

I have no experience of BNE, but you'd be eligible to check out both lounges - PP through an invitation, and SQ through star alliance rules. (Unless for some reason the SQ lounge is capacity controlled.)

SQ lounge often refuse J passengers on star alliance flights so try and get in the SQ lounge first so you can plan how much time to spend in the PP lounge

MEL used to be one of the biggest offenders in this regard. They claimed that the SQ lounge was a 'Silver Kris' lounge and not a 'star alliance' lounge. The last couple of years there haen't been any problems. Can't speak for BNE. SYD was ok the last couple times I was there.

Thanks all, it is a shame that the Air NZ lounge is not open at that time. I visited there a few months ago on a VA flight to NZ (Pre new lounge arrangements) and found it to be pretty good. I’ll start at the SQ lounge if possible and see how we go from there.
