Did the trip today here are some observations:

Finished work at 3pm caught train checked in at new F check-in at 3:30. Advised to show BP to go through express C&I worked like a charm in new F club at 3:35. Very nice club sandwich, coca cola and called to plane at 4:30 for 5pm departure.

In 36 K, guy in the aisle seat gets kicked out for mum and toddler. He was not happy "I am gold - I want to sit at the front", no dice he went down the back.

On arrival at BKK straight to QF/BA First lounge nice snacks/soup not special but better than Y food - then back onto plane 1 hour later. Most surprised just b4 take-off FA comes and says "Mr Dragonman, is there anything we can get you" - a seat up the front I thought but flight was full. I noticed that she went to two others (both plat?).

I guess for my first long-haul in Y as a plat the nicest part was the opportunity to eat well in the lounges and pass on the on-board meals.

This is one thing I have never been able to understand. OK, mum and toddler need to sit together and row 36 does not appear to be bassinet so why not put them down the back and bring a passenger from the back to the front. When people want to sit together after having different seats allocated then surely they should not expect to be seated up front. Yet this appears to be the case most of the time.

Lucky it has never happened but I would not be very happy if they ever tried to play this trick on me. The guy in 36H probably had seat allocated for months. Yes I know, your allocated seat is not guaranteed....

YMMV at any time in regard to sustenance available to WP's, however it was interesting that on my most recent SIN departure back to Oz using QF10 'initial' boarding was called in the First Lounge with the "standard final call to follow soon".

The fare in the First lounge had been reasonable, if not really interesting. I went to the toilet in preparation for departure; on coming back there was mrs serfty tucking into a plate of rendang on rice. As I approached my wife a lady with a tray of these, came along side offering me the same - of course I accepted. Very nice and freshly cooked it was too. We ate these and proceed to board.

Once, ensconced in 34H/J it still took over an hour after takeoff before we were offered a meal, so we took them ... while reasonable, the rendang was better.

:)

SO, yes, if a WP travelling WHY, enjoy what is available in the QP's, but don't discount the food available on board; there's no rule you have to eat it all.

When I did my SYD-SIN BA F's last year, some of the food given to me in the F lounge was also offered to me onboard as entree's. Was even the same plates from what I recall.
