Hey everyone,
I'm Elise and I'm 15.
My father has platinum ff, and i've been flying with him since I was very young.
Anyway, In September my father, mother and my brother and I are going QF93 to LA. We will be using the Qantas Club at Melb, and hopefully something at LAX.

Questions:
Qantas club melbourne, should we buy a pass, or do we need to (usually, they just wave us through)?
LAX - Is AA a good option, to buy a day pass, or any other ideas.

Thankyou!

Hi Elise, and welcome!

Admirals Club day pass is $50 USD per person and is valid for 24 hrs from issue. It depends on how long you're going to be in the lounge for, because you don't get a great deal of benefit for the money.
From what I recall of the last time I was at the LAX AA Lounge, you still need to pay for most of your food and drinks (alcoholic ones, which won't be an issue for you). I'm not sure about soft drinks as I can't recall having one .
However you do get a nicer place to chill out and relax in relative peace and quiet.

If your dad is Qantas Platinum, you'll be able to use both the Melbourne and LAX lounges for free.

If he is AA Platinum you will only get into the Melbourne Biz lounge/qantas club.

Taking the 3 of you in may require some sweet talking too...

Hi Elise,

In Melbourne you shouldn't have an issue, I have flown there with my wife and two kids, 15 and 14, they let everyone into the QP business lounge. In LAX, your Dad can get two people into the AA Flagship (First Lounge), also they are quite lax on letting in kids with a Qantas Platinum parent, but only two in the first lounge area. Ask for free Wi-Fi (if u have a laptop) and drink coupons (soft drinks, hehe).

You'll find most of the AA lounges in USA are very kid/family friendly, they draw the line with the Flagship (First) lounges.

Remember, be cool, and have alot of fun.

At Melbourne your father is entitled as a Plat to access the First class lounge though I doubt he would be able to get 3 guests in.So you could all try the business lounge and probably you would all get in.If not your father could take your mother to the F lounge and you and your brother to the business lounge.
Now at LAX is it just for the flight home.If so QF 94 departs from the Tom Bradley terminal and there is a QF lounge there so probably OK.If flying on AA to somewhere else it will be terminal 4.Now AA agents come in 2 basic types-first are sticklers for the rules, second are really great and go out of their way to help(which is why they are known as Aangels).Fortunately I usually meet type 2 and if you do there will be no problems. If you meet type 1 then dad should take 1 of you in then come out and come back in a few minutes making sure he gets a different agent-quite often a better result.
If all else fails then buy a pass.
Have a great time.

Hi Elise, Welcome to AFF,

I have to agree with drron on this one, your dad is entitled to access the F lounge but taking 3 guests in there plus himself might just be pushing it a little bit (QF lounge dragons are sometimes nice put they do put their foot down eventually):D

But having your dad take you into the J lounge sounds like a good idea, then he just goes up to the F lounge with your mum and you can all meet up again at the boarding gate, just be careful though as I have noticed QF staff to be a bit vigilant when there are people under 18 in the J lounge, depends how old your brother is >18 and you should be all set

Good luck,

Josh

:shock:Aww fiddlesticks, I quite liked that title, still have hope though as I was born in December

To be certain of gaining access to the Qantas Club lounges, your father could purchase a 1-year partner Membership for your mother ($275) and then they can both take a guest into the lounges. I did they a few years ago when taking an ATW trip with the family. I was QF Platinum and purchased a Qantas Club Partner Membership for Mrs NM. We had no issues then accessing Qantas, AA and BA lounges with three kids and in most cases could also take in Mrs NM's parents as guests who were travelling with us.

Thanks! Sweet talking? Really, most of the time, he says they don't care, when he takes 3 customers in AA lounge.

Coincidence? I'm within the first ten days of the month so I have a feeling I may be older:(
