Hi all

Just wondering, besides AA, which airline has similar challenge schemes?

Cheers

I am not aware of any other airlines that have a regular program such as AA's challenges. From time to time some airlines will offer status matches for people with status from competitors, and sometimes these may involve actually flying with the new airline. Virgin Atlantic had such an offer recently where a Qantas Gold or Platinum members could gain VS status if flying to Hong Kong in Upper Class. But that was a short-term specific targeted promotion.

I'm looking to do more Star Alliance travel this year, after a long time not using them (last trip on Thai almost 2 years ago). Last month I rang United in Sydney and they comp'd me on the spot to Premier Exec after sending my most recent QF statement showing platinum status.

BTW when signing up to UA, I overlooked that they don't offer 200% mileage bonus to Star Alliance partners - you only get it on UA services. I flew Thai a couple of weeks ago twice, and discovered zero benefit :-( This is inferior to AAdvantage, where I get 200% on all OneWorld carriers. I must look into SIA or Thai programs, and see if they offer 200% AND that the redemption rewards are industry competitive. If so, I'll ring them for a comp, and put my Star Alliance miles there.

I also know that Continental offered comp status for all employees in my company with existing gold/platinum on other airlines last year. I so rarely use them I didn't bother.

cowombat - please start a new thread outlining your travel patterns and preferred outcomes (status, upgrades, awards); and we can help with specific advice. There is no one program that works best for everyone as they all have pluses and minuses.

I wasn't trying to set up info necessary for a new thread. Rather, to answer FrankC, that while some other airlines may not have an equivilent to the AA challenge, it is possible to get high'ish FF status via other means. (if he already has status in an existing program)
