Platinum Business upgrade useless - very disappointing

I didn't think there was a special platinum number. Just have to enter your velocity number and be routed to the correct team.

That's what I thought too. But wondered if I had missed something

I always just press option 3 and always get through to the Platinum desk.

131 875 ... 1, 1, membership number, [4 for platinum if the system is broken], 3 for Velocity FF centre. I never bother with option 1 or 2 regardless whether it's a domestic or international flight.

It has been a while now but I called up enquiring about availability using the complimentary upgrades before booking the Flexi fare.

Well I have something positive to add to this.

As I have posted previously, I also find these complimentary upgrades next to useless.

So I booked on Friday for Sundays travel and had checked in the rewards page and there were none available for the time I wished to travel. After booking I rang anyway and was told same.
Had checked on the Sunday and there was still two seats available for purchase.

When arriving at the lounge I thought I would ask anyway expecting the same response I had had at OOL and Perth previously.

However to my pleasant surprise the nice lady there asked me to leave it with her for a bit and sure enough 10 minutes later I had a ticket for 2A!

Good job all round I thought and a happy Virgin customer for a change.

The best value for my comp upgrades is always MEL-PER or SYD-PER and return even though it now has to be stacked on to a flexi fare.

Never failed to get an upgrade yet booking at least a month in advance.

I succeeded in booking an upgrade the other day :)

Then I found out the aircraft will be an Embraer :(

Oh well. First world problems and all that.

Seriousl;y, there is not much difference in service between J on the E90';s and the 737's.

(They may need to go to the back galley if you want red wine to get the big Bottle as forward storage is limited.)

I actually prefer the E-Jet business over the 737's. Not much in it but the seat (IMHO) is better on the E-Jet......slightly narrower which tends to feel more like a recliner seat than the wider flatter couch style of the 737's. The only things I prefer on the 737's are the wider armrests between the two and the full size overheads on the port side. Of course, everyone is different and YMMV.

Well my 4 upgrades are going to waste again. Is it possible to give them away somehow? If so, does anyone have any flexis booked before June 12th that wants them?

Yes I have, but it won't help me I'm afraid. You can use the upgrades for others, but you have to book them through your account.
