Like the Northwest newspaper. It is pronounced ad-vo-kate with the emphasis on Kate.

Thanks for a great TR, got some great recommendations for our trip end of this month. Will certainly be giving the Gordon Dam a miss, horrifying....!!!

Thanks Nukie. I just don't ever learn.

I looked at those metal steps and thought I should not go down there and then off I went. I got to the dam wall and took way too many deep breaths. There was a group of young people coming behind me, well, I passed them and they ended up being behind me, and one of them was just about crying but their friends were forcing them to keep going.

We walked up and down the Eiffel Tower. Even more terrifying. An observation tower in the Amazon jungle, I had to be talked down! Blackpool Tower, clung to the centre structure with the grip of death (truly pathetic!!). Lighthouses, same. Suspension bridges, same. I don't even like walking over the Storey Bridge here in Brisbane. Yet I keep making myself do it wherever and whenever we travel.

You're way braver than I am! Having a dodgy knee like you I probably couldn't handle the steps anyway.

One of the really scary ones I got conned into was the steps inside Liverpool cathedral tower. The Euromast in Rotterdam reduced me to tears. Couldn't handle the walk in the Cloud Forest in Singapore either, wimp. Why do we do it to ourselves????

Anyway, really looking forward to the Tassie food. Happy travelling.

I certainly understand your problems with heights - and my knees are also suspect - I am much the same but have now got to the stage where I simply say no and let my wife go ahead while I wait where I feel comfortable. My wife went on the helicopter ride over Niagara Falls while my webbed feet stayed safely on the ground. Those 'skywalks' with perforated or glass floors are also certainly a big problem. Missing out on a few sights is far more bearable than the feeling of unease I get from walking in those sort of places. My weirdest reaction is being reasonably comfortable sitting in an aircraft window seat but feeling concerned if I stand up and look out the same window.

OMG! Glass skywalks!! Flying doesn't bother me, stood or sitting. Helicopters I love but weirdly propeller planes are not a favourite. The mind is such an odd thing.

Just realised that I have called Adventure Bay on Bruny Discovery Bay, multiple times. Apologies to anyone confused.

Thanks for the detailed trip report. Lots of places for Australians to visit without having to fly internationally.

state COViD lock downs and out breaks really make trip planning very stressful, I was meant to be going to Perth for Easter a short 3 day lock down in Brisbane put paid to that.

Didn't make it to Tasmania thanks to a 3 day lock down here in Perth which then would've meant 14 day quarantine in Hobart. Them's the breaks in Covid time. Now looking at going in June, bit cold but what the heck. At least we could reschedule and pay a little more for flights.

If the weird performance stuff isn’t your cup of tea, then just go to the Winter Feast. I’ve posted pics about this fantastic food and bev event before.

Oh, do you like swimming?

Thanks for the info. Will certainly check it out.

If you aren’t into it at all. then there will be accommodation issues around Hobart ( and maybe beyond) during this period plus the usual rental car shortage. It really is a big thing, plane loads of people come from interstate for it, although it’s cut down a bit this year.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Maybe have to change the date we had in mind, although we were wanting to tour around and only have the first night in Hobart.
