A United Airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing in New Orleans after it lost all electrical power and the coughpit filled with smoke, the United States Federal Aviation Administration said.

Flight 497, an Airbus A320, had just taken off from New Orleans Airport and was bound for San Francisco when its pilots were forced to bring the jet back down about 7.30am on Monday.

Re: Plane overshoots runway as pilot lands with little steering ability after jet los

I know that this is probably going to sound weird but once I knew that the crisis was over, I wouldn't mind being on a flight like this. I think it would be quite fun using the slides, walking across a runway etc etc.

Just watching some footage on Channel 7 which included coughpit audio, just prior to landing they lost all flight instruments but the pilot sounded very calm and collected,I reckon this one will make excellent material for air crash investigation.
All in all a good outcome, everyone survived what could have been a very nasty accident, yet again the value of having a well trained ,professional crew at the pointy end can't be overstated in my opinion.
Cheers
