Plane downgrade with pe booking

I don't like your chances based on my recent experience of two F>J downgrades as an asterixed-WP1, but look forward to hearing any success stories.

Most likely to just be "a full refund of the difference between the classes", i.e. "Let's pretend it never happened".
I don't like my chances either but I think that should be the minimum compensation I would expect and I would seriously try to get it.

The airlines have everything their way and most times the customer does not matter.

I think it is important when it comes to a downgrade - particularly for economy class - that the fare difference is between the lowest economy fare at the time you originally booked - not the 'full' economy fare or any higher fare which may be applicable on the day you fly.

While it's not entirely practical, and I don't do it myself, but perhaps a screen shot of the lowest fare when you make your original booking might be a good starting place.
