We have TSA locks on our carry ons but are thinking of locking them together on night flights to make it harder for the thieves to make off with them. Any suggestions?

Simple precautions should be enough. A TSA lock is more than adequate as a deterrent, as is making sure the zip tags are as far away from the aisle as possible. If someone has to fuss around to gain entry, the greater the chance someone will see them.

If you are flying economy, you might consider placing the bag in the overhead locker on the opposite side of your seat... not above your seat. If it's above your seat, you don't know if the person is going into their own bag or yours. If it's across the aisle, you can easily see.

In first or business class, place the bag above your seat... no one else should be going into that locker.

Ya, that's what you want to do in countries with Sharia based justice system....stealing stuff! :what::rolleyes:

Aircraft registered in Qatar would be subject to Qatari Sharia criminal law. Time to make an example of someone, methinks.

Was watching Airport Dubai a couple of nights ago and there was a guy that was accused of stealing on a flight. Apparently he had flown in and out of the airport quite a few times in the past few weeks but not saying overnight, so simply flying in and out, multiple times. Stealing each time was the assumption.

Finding status runs that would be considered a steal is hard these days too.

You'd have to be flying on a pretty cheap fare to make stealing in flight financially worth it.

I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger issue for all airlines.

Look at the carry-on some Asian and ME passengers take, especially on flights from London. Apparently even VS and BA flights from LHR to Nigeria have ridiculous amounts of luxury goods in carry on in J, mostly by the governing elite. Not people you'd want to mess with, but the temptation is there!

There have been many reports in Singapore media of in flight theft. Mainly routes from China but also Jakarta. Routes where people are either legitimately or illegitimately transferring cash without wanting the authorities to know. Reports of thefts of $5-10k USD are not unheard of, the thieves are not targeting your average joe citizen with their $300 iPad and $400 watch.
