I just checked into an Accor property and the reception insisted that they needed to see my credit card and Accor ALL membership card. (I've been a member for over a year and am currently a silver member. I booked direct with Accor and my membership number was on the booking.)

I thought this was a bit strange because (a) I've never been asked for an Accor membership card before, and (b) I never received one from Accor!

Has anyone received a physical membership card from Accor and/or been asked for it before?

I received physical cards (I became a Gold automatically through the purchase of an Ibis Business membership so received two separate membership packs with the cards), but have honestly never been asked to produce them.

All my bookings have been directly with Accor both in Australia and overseas, and every time I've offered to produce my Gold card the staff would respond that they could already see my status in the booking as I linked my membership number.

If they're denying you certain benefits, is it worth trying to show them the virtual card that exists through the Accor app? Otherwise I'd ask them to call Accor head office where your status can be confirmed pretty easily.

Edit: Also, upon reflection, aren't the current physical cards a bit useless anyway since they don't have the updated expiry dates on them from everyone being extended? I think the virtual card/their database would be much more current.

Mattg, do you have Accor Plus membership(that qualifies you for Silver) and booked an Accor Plus rate(extra 10% off on other membership rates)? If you booked the Accor Plus rate they stated that you must produce the Accor Plus card(essentially the membership card) on check in.

I always show my Accor membership card on check in but staff usually ignored it. The staff usually are more interested in my ID at check in, rather than my membership card.

I don't have Accor Plus and did not get a special member/discounted rate.

Was any explanation offered for the need to produce the Accor member card? Sounds a bit odd. I have never been asked for this (I’m silver).

Not really, she just said that it was a "requirement".

I said I'd never been asked for it before, and never received a card from Accor anyway, and the lady said she'd "check with the general manager". I was still allowed to check in after she checked my credit card. 🤷‍♂️

I have a card but it expired ages ago...I vary between silver and nothing...the number stayed the same so I keep the card. I use the number on my direct bookings and when I'm silver you get free wifi and a beer.
Never been asked for it except I get it out to get the number if its a random drive in booking and not pre booked.
I havent stayed there since this ALL brand thing started but last year it was still Accor.

I've sometimes been asked for a physical card, overseas. Once (I think in London) they were quite insistent. I told them that in Australia we don't get physical cards and with the card in the app, they reluctantly accepted me.

Consider it about new staff who have been told to ask for the card but are clueless about app cards or that its not an actual form of ID.

Come to think of it, I think she might have been asking for my membership card for the purposes of ID. Not sure why that would be any better than a driver's licence/passport (which I wasn't asked for). 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Can now confirm this. I spoke to the receptionist again today and she said it was normally the hotel's policy to ask loyalty members for their Accor card in lieu of photo ID.
