Pets in the Cabin - Coming soon on Virgin Australia

What's to say that a person with a pet would not have Handled them, and not washed their hands before sitting down, then handling the area around their seat including the armrest and back of the seat in front of you!
Of course you wouldn’t wash your hands after picking up your pet, unless there was good reason too such as slobber, or poo or something.

Worse is humans not washing their hands after the toilet or coughing and then touching all those things!!

It's easy just wash your hands before and after flying and after the toilet.
But please don't be like the man I saw in Dubai washing his feet in the hand basin. And, no it wasn't prayer time.

You would then have to open the door, which involves touching the door.

And also, how many people actually wash their hands properly?

This is going off topic, but pet is just one of many factors. You don't need a pet to get Bali belly.

Agree, back to pets ,it would have to be traumatic for them being stuck on a plane. Immange if they got the dreaded middle seat.

And all the other things one would have touched:
X-ray trays
Seat belt
Overhead luggage store
Seat
Toilet door / handle of the plane

That's why people should just eat with cutlery!
Then again, perhaps they handled a pet in the terminal, (Bye Bye Fluffy!), and then boarded without it!

This thread is getting ridiculous and way OT. From the ABC article shared by @Chicken:

"I think if you're allergic that might be a problem, but I'm sure you could go on another flight," Ms Journeaux said.

Ms Journeaux is but a VA pax with no objection to the pets and no stated intention to use the service either, but I do hope for the sake of affected pax, her view on changing flights is shared as freely by VA. In fact, if the circumstances were right, savvy pax might be able to leverage onboard pets to switch to a more desirable flight.

It is simple if you really care about your pet , don't put it on a plane.Leave it at home in the care of family or friends. Pets on a plane is a terribly pretentious 1st world thing.
What about those who are moving interstate, as one example?

For those who really care about their pet (like you say), they'd prefer not to have them unaccompanied for long periods of the journey - including exposed to the elements on the ramp, and put in the cargo hold (which despite being pressurised, heated and dimly lit) wouldn't be a fun place to travel for a sentient being.

I agree, the whole dog thing has got out of hand. When the economy goes south a lot of these poor creatures are turfed out onto the curb too. That being said I wish I had the brains to get into the pet business a few decades ago...

However, if there is an option to take your dog on holidays then why not. It appears to be far cheaper than placing them in a kennel for a week or longer. I've had family spend thousands on dog kennels, whereas pet flights seem to go for as little as roughly $150 (if you dog meets the requirements).

I've had family ask me to look after their pets. I refuse, mainly as I don't want a barking dog annoying my neighbors or the dog destroying my property. Having a dog ties you down and this is something many don't seem to consider before buying one.
