Waiting for this thread to derail and someone say Qantas treats Perth like dirt.

Oh wait... we've been there and done that.

Well, just wait till the only QF B787 departs PER - LHR.
Not good for those departing PER - SIN but excellent for those on the way to LHR.
Edit: at least its better than the way QF treats ADL and DRW residents!

You wont catch me flying PER-LHR direct, on any aircraft. As for ADL and DRW, I feel their pain.

Call me a sadis_, but I just might one day want to catch that 787 all the way from PER - LHR, maybe when I retire from work.
But then, I love the 787 compared to other aircrafts, but only because the 787 windows allow me to see the sunrise and sunset in that 18 odd hours slog to LHR.
There must be something that QF knows for putting the 787 from PER - LHR, is it the longest distance a 787 can fly non stop, or is it because QF does not want to land anywhere else (apart from an emergency), in putting PER - LHR.
Can it be that PER has all the rich who will pay to go the 787?
Ok, thats it for my mumblings anyroad.

Don't know why anybody would pay to travel QF PER-SIN when Scootbiz is almost the same price.

Not everyone wants to fly a LCC, and for others the TR flight times aren’t great.

To SIN you arrive roughly midnight. So you're not going to be in bed before 1:30am. Day one is a write-off.

I'd rather arrive late and get 6 hours of proper sleep then take an overnight flight where you're luckly to get 2 hours of broken sleep.

Granted QF78 is an overnight flight, but it is only 3xweekly.

The currenty TR17 timings arrive in SIN around 2-3am, which isn't particularly great either. If you are after 6 hours of shut eye, you are looking at waking up around 9-10am the next morning.

What this really shows is how everyone has different preferences and hence the different options.

Indeed, from the perspective of a long weekend type of passenger (either PER or more likely SIN originating) , the QF 71 timing is less than ideal - it wastes a whole day travelling. The later departures (eg Jetstar) work better - despite reduced sleep at destination (or when returning home). Conversely for those taking a longer trip, the QF71 timing is probably better.

For us, the QF71 timings were great with the children, QF72 not so great. TR18 was better coming home (even if they had shifted the flight from 12noon back to 3pm).

Lately I've been going up QF and back on Scoot as the flight schedules were more friendly that way. That said, I've now also joined UA so with the many choices available from SQ, they will probably win the day in the future.

Agreed - I occasionally use QF to Singapore. However, with SQ fares at $495 Y and $2055 J at the moment with 4 flights a day it's a easy choice.

Not sure why you'd subject yourself to the 737.....

Do our best not to. We have to go to Sydney first weekend in December, have booked flights on Airbus' each way, hope they stick.

QF could possibly be the worst option currently available PER-SIN...

3K/TR are the cheapest options with similar comfort levels to QF. SQ are also cheaper than QF, offer better aircraft, service, comfort and four flights a day.

I've done this flight in Y. Really not that bad and no different at all to PER - BNE sector on the same aircraft.

Your tolerance is obviously better than mine. I avoid the 737 like the plague on BNE - PER, or v/v. Travelling for longer on one is too hideous to think of.

It's probably the one situation where my rusted on loyalty to QF would vanish. There is no way in the known universe I will sit on a 737 in Y for more than 3 Hrs if there is an alternative.

All this negative talk about the B738 is making me nervous for my SYD-DPS flights next year...!
