Hi
Back in Dec 2015, there were media reports of JAL and/or ANA planning to start Perth–Japan direct flights. Does anyone have any updates on this possibility taking off?
Have booked our accommodation in Niseko and have to book flights very soon. Looking at CX at the moment.
Thanks.

Yes - do miss those alternate direct flights they used to do from Perth to Osaka and Tokyo, the connections needed now add more than a few hours to the trip.

If heading to Hokkaido probably doesn't make much difference, always at minimum one connection required.

Thanks, everyone for your response. We are looking at CX because it is just one transit and the timings are more manageable for the kiddos.

Prices have increased since I looked at them about a month ago. TA told me that prices will just continue to increase.

Generally, do prices for Y & J increase with time? We are looking at 2 J fares & 7 Y fares. Is there a ‘best’ time to buy? Our dates are outgoing 16[SUP]th[/SUP] Jan & returning 28[SUP]th[/SUP] Jan.

Does CX have an earlybird or mid-year sale? Haven’t flown with CX before, so not sure about their promo timings.

Thanks.

Prices can do anything. It all depends on what the airline thinks they can sell before the flight, how quickly seats on a set flight are sold, etc. Prices could stay the same, go down or go up.
Generally, as more seats sell, the airlines yield management systems will close off the cheaper fare buckets leaving the more expensive fares.

PER (and to a lesser extent the remainder of Australia) have airlines that are well aware of the nature of the captive audience. The price of airline tickets reflect that knowledge. The fall of the Aussie $$ has reduced the advantage of buying tickets in SE Asia, but for many routes the arbitrage opportunity still exists if you are willing to take a cheap flight into SIN or KUL.

If you have the time, there are other opportunities for cheaper tickets.

Happy wandering

Fred

You need to buy now.

I have been 8 times over the last 9 ski seasons. I watch all the airfares closely for my various accompanying friends. CX have the best timings and sell out completely. They only get more and more expensive, and the best connections go the quickest. I would be surprised if you could book for less that $1500 by mid June, whereas they start at around $1100.

And just in general- no airline is going to discount peak season travel. You are going from Per, to the snow, during school holidays. This is the definition of ultra peak!

The Japanese community and all hoping (and praying) that somebody starts flying a couple of times a week to Perth, so family and friends can visit.

Many senior Japanese citizens are insecure in having to transit at overseas airports

Still no word on the like hood of these flights happening.

There hasn't been any other news about the rumours for a while.
JAL can't add new routes until sometime next year due to their tax payer funded bail out.
ANA needs more aircraft.
Waiting for HND-AU day slots might also factor in.

Thanks so much for the advice. You’re right. CX best connection is now A$2206 and the other connections are in the region of A$1800.
Will take advice and buy tickets by next week.
Thanks.

I have been wondering about this route myself . In October 2017 the WA Govt had discussions with ANA and JAL to start direct flights to Perth . But yet to hear more .
Would definitely make this a regular trip .
