Second Aussie airport gets new contactless arrivals smartgates

Perth Airport has become Australia’s second international airport to begin using new facial biometrics ready smartgates that will eventually allow travellers to pass through without producing a passport.

Nice to see that Perth isn't living up to it's name of W(ait) A(while)!

Well up until this, there were no smart gates at the QF international terminal....so we did Wait Awhile

Interesting though that it will only be the QF international terminal which I believe has flights to SIN/AKL as well as the longhaul flight to LHR; but no plans (just yet) to roll out to the 'real' international terminal.

Well for me that can only (hopefully) be an improvement, when I depart thru the International terminal my passport, as was my previous one, is rejected. I am not alone with this, I always have a number of others who have to join me in the 'others' queue, and my wife who has to stand waiting for me for up to half an hour, tells me that it only happens to blokes! I could and still do with my replacement passport get back in OK using the reader. I suspect this may be why Perth is the second airport to get rigged up, their first attempt has not been well received.

Not likely to happen until the second half of the next decade. A disaster really IMHO.
